Summary: The study reveals that HCC-secreted LGALS3 plays a crucial role in bone metastasis of HCC patients by promoting the formation of pre-metastatic niche and inducing skeletal-related events. Treatment with vertiporfin, a drug for macular degeneration, effectively inhibits skeletal complications of HCC.

Summary: This paper presents a case of uterine adenosarcoma originating in the lower uterine segment in a 46-year-old woman. The diagnosis was confirmed through endometrial biopsy and pathological examination, which identified heterologous malignant elements. The literature was reviewed to illustrate the clinical and morphological characteristics and the differential diagnoses to be considered.

Summary: The study revealed that HCC-secreted LGALS3 is associated with shorter bone-metastasis-free survival and can enhance metastatic capability to bone by forming a pre-metastatic niche. Treatment with vertoporf can decrease LGALS3 expression and effectively inhibit skeletal complications of HCC.

Summary: Differentiated thyroid carcinomas usually have slow progression and good long-term survival, but distant metastases can occur in locations such as cervical lymph nodes, lungs, and bones. However, skeletal muscle metastases are extremely rare. This report presents a case of a 42-year-old woman with follicular thyroid cancer who had a thigh mass that was initially misdiagnosed as synovial sarcoma. Further analysis confirmed the mass to be a skeletal muscle metastasis from thyroid cancer. This study aims to raise awareness that skeletal muscle metastases can occur in clinical settings, despite their low probability.

Summary: The research suggests that BM-MSC plays a crucial role in cancer cell dissemination and metastasis in lung cancer models. BM-MSC-induced signaling triggers early dissemination of cancer stem cells and promotes proliferation at secondary sites. Additionally, intercellular signaling regulates the switch between migration and proliferation.

Summary: The study validated the SORG machine-learning algorithms for predicting 90-day and one-year mortality in Taiwanese patients with spinal metastatic disease. The algorithms showed good discriminative ability, overall performance, and positive net benefit. However, 90-day mortality was underestimated in this group possibly due to differences in primary tumor characteristics, body mass index, selection bias, or other factors. Further validation with international and diverse populations may help clarify these inconsistencies.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of psoas muscle area (PMA) in Han Chinese patients with spinal metastasis and its relationship with existing prognostic scoring systems (PSSs). The results showed that PMA was associated with 90-day survival but not 1-year survival. The addition of PMA improved the model performance of some PSSs but had limited improvement for more modern PSSs like SORG-MLAs.

Summary: This study validates the performance of the PATHFx model in predicting survival for Taiwanese patients with skeletal extremity metastasis. The results showed that the performance of PATHFx was not as encouraging as previous validation studies. Clinicians should be aware of the potential decline in validity when using tools designed using data from different populations, and developers of survival prediction tools should consider using more diverse samples to improve their algorithms.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the cost-effectiveness of operative and nonoperative treatments for spinal metastasis based on patients' predicted survival probability. The study found that operative intervention with postoperative radiotherapy could be more cost-effective than radiotherapy alone for patients with a better survival outlook. The study emphasizes the importance of carefully selecting patients and accurately predicting survival, and suggests that future research using accurate survival prediction tools and larger sample sizes could provide more detailed insights for clinical decisions.
