Summary: A virus enzyme assay using a luciferin derivative as the substrate has been developed as an alternative method for detection of acute viral infection, particularly for influenza diagnosis. The assay showed similar detection rates for all influenza types and subtypes except for A(H7N9) due to lower viral titer. When tested with diluted specimens in comparison to a real-time polymerase chain reaction assay, the assay demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity.

Mathematical models were used to estimate key epidemiological parameters such as the time of virus introduction and contact rate during a LPAI H5N2 outbreak in Minnesota, USA in 2018. Results suggest that early detection, increased testing, and combining data from similar production systems can improve estimation accuracy.

Summary: In this study, a new highly sensitive and selective COVID-19 diagnostic device was developed by combining the principle of ATKs with electrochemical detection, allowing quantification using a smartphone. The device utilized a screen-printed electrode inside a lateral flow device to exploit the binding affinity between SARS-CoV-2 antigen and ACE2. Electrochemical assay signal intensity on smartphones increased proportionally to the concentration of SARS-CoV-2 antigen. The sensor demonstrated excellent performance in assessing and screening COVID-19 and can be used to accurately verify diagnostic data while remaining rapid, simple, and inexpensive.

Summary: This case report describes a 70-year-old male patient with previously unknown immunodeficiency. Multiple pulmonary nodular shadows were observed on radiography. Fungal infection was detected in various samples, and the patient was ultimately diagnosed with disseminated Talaromyces marneffei infection and B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The main significance of this study is to emphasize the importance for clinicians to obtain comprehensive specimens from patients presenting with multiple masses in order to ensure accurate clinical diagnosis.

The results showed high agreement between TTC assay and the recommended broth microdilution method, indicating the potential of TTC as a promising indicator in drug susceptibility testing for NTM.

Summary: Rapid detection of pathogenic microorganisms is crucial for epidemiologic identification, prevention, and control in public health. PCR-based methods have limitations in resource-limited areas due to the need for precise temperature control. Recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) is a new nucleic acid amplification technology that can amplify DNA or RNA at a constant temperature, offering simplicity, high specificity and sensitivity, and short detection time. Microfluidic technology combined with RPA enables rapid detection of pathogenic microorganisms by integrating nucleic acid extraction, amplification, and detection.
