Summary: This study assessed the relationship between diagnosis diversity and cost per hospitalization for pediatric patients. The results showed that greater diagnosis diversity was associated with increased cost per hospitalization, emphasizing the importance of considering diagnosis diversity when evaluating inpatient care costs for pediatric patients.

Summary: The study found that transitioning from a DRG-based system to a global budget system was associated with shorter lengths of stay and increased hospital volume. Discontinuation of the DRG scheme was associated with longer lengths of stay and decreased hospital volume, but there was no significant change in in-hospital mortality and emergency readmission rates.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the factors that drive total hospital charges for benign hysterectomy. A retrospective cohort study was conducted at five hospitals in Maryland. Patient, perioperative, and hospital characteristics were included as predictor variables in a multiple linear regression model. The results showed that perioperative and hospital factors significantly influenced the total hospital charges for benign hysterectomy.

Summary: Diagnosis related groups (DRGs) is an important management method of the global healthcare system, which classifies patients into different cost groups and pays attention to the equitable distribution of medical resources and the quality of medical services. It is widely used by medical institutions and doctors to improve treatment accuracy, avoid wastage of resources, and enhance treatment efficiency.

Summary: Implementing an Age-friendly Hospital model in Brazilian hospitals and integrating a geriatric co-management team in Clinical Teaching Units (CTUs) leads to improved efficiency, reduced length of patient-stay, increased referrals to homecare services, without increasing total hospital costs.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the proportion of admitted neurosurgical patients with LOS-BMR and related risk factors and costs. Results showed that over a quarter of neurosurgical patients had LOS-BMR, leading to issues such as bed shortages, insurance clearance delays, and family-related problems. Older patients with comorbidities like hemiplegia, dementia, liver and renal diseases, and diabetes were more likely to experience LOS-BMR and were more likely to be discharged to rehabilitation or nursing facilities. Medicare patients were more likely to have LOS-BMR compared to those with private insurance.

Summary: The study proposes an improved bargaining game model over three stages, with the government and patients forming an alliance, to prevent adverse selection problems in the operations of a diagnosis-related groups (DRGs) system. Results show that an increase in demand elasticity leads to a higher cost compensation for medical institutions and an increase in equilibrium price. The equilibrium price is associated with the coefficient of patients' quality preference, and the absolute risk aversion coefficient of patients affects government compensation and total social welfare.

Summary: The study estimated the additional impact of dementia on in-patient length of stay and related costs in Irish acute hospitals. The results showed that patients with dementia had longer hospital stays, highlighting the economic impact of extended length of stay for dementia patients in Irish acute hospitals.

Summary: This study examined the cost and external cost behaviors of intermodal maritime-rail container transport from China to various European ports connecting to central European destinations. The research found that maritime external costs accounted for at least 83% of the total external costs in combined transport.

Summary: After the nationwide adoption of robotic-assisted surgery for endometrial cancer in Denmark, obese women did not show significant increases in total costs post-surgery, and even demonstrated a reduction in bed days related to the index hospitalization. However, non-obese women who underwent robotic-assisted surgery showed significant increases in total costs post-surgery and no reduction in bed days.

Summary: The present study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic factors that predict patient outcomes and hospital cost in erythroderma. The study found that urban teaching hospitals, black and asian patients, and northeast or south geographic location were associated with higher hospital costs. Female sex and large bed capacity were associated with prolonged length of stay (LOS), while increased age was associated with shorter LOS. Lower hospital costs were associated with private-owned hospitals.
