Individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic periodontitis have significantly higher levels of interleukin-1 beta compared with systemically healthy individuals with chronic periodontitis. However, there was no significant difference in gingival crevicular levels of other cytokines between individuals with and without T2DM. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
