Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for the general population of Pakistan. The results showed that age, city, gender, education, occupation, residence, and house occupancy significantly affected HRQOL. Socioeconomically deprived groups and females had inferior health status compared to more advantaged groups. Similar trends were observed compared to high-income nations.

Summary: Eighteen months into the COVID-19 pandemic, studies have shown that diabetes is a major contributor to severe morbidity and mortality among COVID-19 patients. Individuals with diabetes have a significantly higher risk of requiring intensive care and death compared to those without diabetes. Further research is needed to understand the impact of COVID-19 on individuals with diabetes and to identify ways to reduce the severity of outcomes in the next phases of the pandemic.

Summary: This study examines misconceptions about the impact of moderate anxiety or depression on quality of life and its potential influence on resource allocation decisions. It found that informing people about the actual differences in life satisfaction or day affect associated with health states can alter their preferences and improve decision-making.

Summary: This study aimed to answer two questions: (1) What are the incidence rates of proximal femoral fractures in the elderly U.S. population? (2) What is the preferred treatment procedure for these fractures? The results showed that the incidence of proximal femoral fractures in elderly patients in the U.S. has decreased over the past decade. Arthroplasty was the main treatment for head/neck fractures, while intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures were predominantly treated with intramedullary nailing.

Summary: The study analyzed a subset of data from the German EQ-5D-5L valuation study, examining severity levels per dimension, means, standard deviations, and confidence intervals of index and EQ VAS values by age groups and gender. Health problems were reported more frequently with higher age, leading to decreasing index and EQ VAS values. Men reported fewer problems than women, particularly beyond the age of 80.

Summary: The study conducted in the Jaffna district of Sri Lanka found a significant proportion of elderly individuals suffering from chronic health conditions. A strong association was observed between physical health conditions and limitations in daily living with the quality of life. Preventing diseases, minimizing limitations in daily living, and improving access to health services can enhance the quality of life of elderly individuals.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the decrease in regular exercise among elderly people during the COVID-19 pandemic and health-related quality of life. The results showed that elderly individuals who reduced their regular exercise experienced a significant deterioration in HRQOL, independent of factors such as age, sex, and BMI.

Summary: The study evaluated the validity of EQ-5D-5L in respondents with self-reported diabetes from a representative general population survey. Results showed that the EQ-5D-5L descriptive system and index had high validity in this group, with improvements in informativity in certain dimensions. Known-groups analysis revealed differences in index scores based on age, gender, medication use, and education levels.

Summary: This study explores the associations between nutritional status and health-related quality of life, physical activity, and sleep quality in older exclusively Caucasian adults from Greec. The results show that a better nutritional status is significantly and independently associated with higher physical activity levels, better quality of life, and better sleep quality. Further intervention studies are needed to clarify the associations and test the feasibility of improving the nutritional status, physical activity levels, and sleep quality of the elderly.

Summary: This study investigated a deprescribing strategy in older patients with type 2 diabetes, replacing multiple drugs with a single combination drug (iDegLira). The results showed improvements in glucose metabolism and markers of inflammation, as well as increases in activities of daily living and cognitive function. The approach of using iDegLira was effective and safe, leading to better health outcomes and quality of life in older patients with T2D.

Summary: This study examined the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of Kuwaiti nationals with diabetes. The results showed that patients had the worst HRQoL in terms of mobility and pain/discomfort. Most patients reported no problems in self-care. Older adults had more severe mobility problems, while females had more severe anxiety and depression issues. The mean overall health perception score was 74.7. Patients with comorbidities and/or complications, females, obesity, insulin usage, and lower levels of education had lower health perception scores.

Summary: This study investigated the association between pre-diagnosis glycemic control and all-cause mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) who develop cancer. The results showed that among T2DM patients in the Netherlands, poor glycemic control before diagnosis with breast and colorectal cancer can increase mortality compared with good control.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the impact of lipids, glucose, and blood pressure on the risk of breast cancer in women with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The findings suggest that imbalances in total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol may increase the risk of breast cancer, while glucose and blood pressure levels do not appear to have a significant association with breast cancer incidence.

Summary: This study investigated the roles and expectations of physicians and nurses in communication and collaboration with families. The findings revealed that physicians and nurses both see themselves and each other as playing important roles in communicating and collaborating with families, but there are differences and uncertainties regarding the division of roles and expectations. To optimize the role and position of families in hospital care, it is necessary to clarify and define the roles of physicians and nurses in this partnership.
