Summary: The study aimed to assess the common use of antibiotic prophylaxis for dental implant placement in Portugal. The results showed that most respondents did not follow the international guidelines for prophylactic antibiotherapy in dental implant surgeries, which calls for increased dissemination of those guidelines.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis on dental implant placement surgery-induced osteoimmune wound healing and osseointegration. The results showed that prophylactic antibiotics caused bacterial dysbiosis, suppressed helper T-cell immune response, reduced the number of osteoblasts and osteoclasts, and weakened the bone-implant interface. These findings suggest that antibiotic prophylaxis dysregulates the osteoimmune wound healing process induced by implant surgery.

Summary: This study compared the costs and effectiveness of using antibiotics in dental implant procedures. The results showed that antibiotic prophylaxis was cost-effective and recommended from an individual patient perspective. However, the healthcare perspective needs to consider the potential impact of antibiotic resistance on public health and associated costs.

Summary: This study assessed the accuracy of a real-time dynamic navigation system in zygomatic implant surgery and summarized device-related negative events and their management. The results showed that navigation-supported zygomatic implantation is an accurate and reliable surgical approach, but technical negative events in the navigation process should be given attention.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the differences between oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMFSs) and dentists in handling dental extractions without an evident clinical indication. A survey was conducted among 256 OMFSs in the Netherlands and a random sample of 800 dentists. The majority of participants received requests for extraction without a clinical indication, and recommendations for handling such requests are greatly needed.

Summary: This study describes the trends in opioid prescribing among oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMFS) from 2016 to 2019. The results show a decrease in opioid prescribing, especially high-risk prescribing, by OMFS. However, targeted interventions are needed in certain areas.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in dentists' knowledge, attitudes, and practice regarding antibiotic use and resistance in two areas of Primorsko-Goranska County, Croatia. Despite high awareness of antimicrobial resistance among dental practitioners, there is still overuse of antibiotics, indicating a need for increased personal responsibility for prudent antibiotic use. The study found that antibiotics are frequently prescribed for conditions where surgical treatment should be the first option, with penicillins being the first choice antibiotic for patients with no medical allergies.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aging on the changes in implant stability over time following implant placement. The results showed that the stability of implants in elderly patients is not related to age, but rather to the engagement of the implant with the bone.

Summary: Dental implantation is the best solution for tooth loss, but its health and stability are global public health concerns. Probiotics have the potential to promote dental implant health by promoting bone tissue homeostasis, inhibiting pathogens, and modulating immune-inflammatory levels.
