Summary: The study revealed that increasing medication cost-sharing rates for patients with schizophrenia resulted in decreased adherence to prescribed medications, lower exposure to antipsychotic drugs, and increased risk of hospitalization during the first year after implementation. These unintended effects highlight the complexities of cost-containment measures in mental health care and call for further examination of their impact.

Summary: By 2030, Austria aims to meet 100% of its electricity demand from domestic renewable sources, such as wind energy, but wind power may have negative impacts on local landscape aesthetics, leading to consideration of alternative energy technologies. The study finds that the opportunity cost of wind power versus its best feasible alternative, solar photovoltaics, is considerable, highlighting the importance of understanding trade-offs in renewable energy development.

Summary: This paper focuses on the cost-sharing problem for ride-sharing, specifically for scenarios where drivers are also commuters aiming for cost recovery. They identify the desirable properties of a cost-sharing mechanism and develop a general framework for creating specific mechanisms. Evaluating their approach using real traffic data, the study shows that each proposed mechanism has unique advantages and that discount methods can effectively reduce the number of no-passenger vehicles in a large ride-sharing system.

Summary: This study provides the first evidence supporting the notion that skyscrapers may also be a source of positive externality. Through analyzing data from 50 US states over a 19-year period, the researchers found a correlation between the prevalence of high-rise construction and melanoma cases. The shadier environment created by these structures may contribute to this result. The findings can assist city planners and should be taken into consideration for potential cost savings related to the reduction of melanoma prevalence.

Summary: This study examines the predictors that affect consumer switching between a third-party online travel agent (OTA) platform and Airbnb using the push-pull-mooring framework. The findings reveal that push factors, pull factors, and mooring factors positively influence switching behavior, with substitutability moderating the effect of push factors.

Summary: The study investigates a quasi-two-dimensional network connection growth model that optimizes network structure by maximizing connections, minimizing wiring cost, and penalizing or prohibiting edge crossings. The model is mapped to an antiferromagnetic Ising spin system with frustrations, and analytic results for the optimized network's mean degree are obtained using mean-field theories. The cost landscape analysis reveals complex structures due to increased crossing penalties, and for strictly no edge crossing cases, a new algorithm based on mean-field equations effectively finds the (near) optimal solution. Monte Carlo simulations and numerical solutions confirm the results, with potential applications and relation to the planar triangulation problem also discussed.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of increasing deductibles on mental health care use by young adults, and finds that it reduces the probability of mental health care utilization, particularly among low-income females. Additionally, the study shows increased treatment cessation even among high-intensity users, suggesting potential long-term consequences for individuals, the health system, and society.

Summary: With the growth of the sharing economy, there have been emerging externalities that require appropriate regulatory approaches. In this paper, a systematic literature review of 99 papers is conducted to provide an overview of government and self-regulation as regulatory approaches to address the economic, social, and environmental externalities of the sharing economy. The findings show that government regulation focuses on avoiding, limiting, and guiding, while self-regulation pertains to market entry, operation, and monitoring. An externalities-based regulatory framework is developed to suggest how these approaches and recommended mechanisms can address each externality, and future research and managerial implications are discussed.

Summary: Resource sharing is an important model for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry by improving communication convenience, resource utilization, and manufacturing efficiency. By utilizing multiagent modeling and system dynamics research, we constructed a resource-sharing model based on Baosteel and the manufacturing industry as backgrounds, and explored the impact of resource sharing on the efficiency of intelligent manufacturing under network collaboration. Policy suggestions were provided based on the simulation results.

Summary: The sustainability of biofuels as substitutes for petrol and diesel is questionable due to economic and environmental issues in their production lifecycle. This study estimates the value of externalities associated with different types of biofuel feedstock using a sample of Australian fuel consumers. The results suggest that newer biofuel feedstock, like microalgae, can generate high consumer values compared to agricultural-based predecessors. Consumers are willing to pay more for biofuels that avoid a 10% increase in food prices and have low lifecycle emissions. Existing biofuel policies and higher incomes have contradictory associations with consumer values. The findings should inform biofuel policies to encourage the development of a more diversified range of feedstock and related technologies for more sustainable fuel alternatives.

Summary: This study examined transaction costs and their determinants in the sharing economy, using structural equation modeling to analyze data from 375 users of Airbnb. The findings suggest that personalization of asset specificity and transaction frequency decrease transaction costs, while learning of asset specificity and transaction uncertainty increase transaction costs, influencing behavioral intention. Perceived complementarity has a direct impact on transaction uncertainty, and the number of users moderates the relationship between transaction costs and behavioral intention. This understanding can guide managers in various industries impacted by the rapid growth of the sharing economy, providing them with strategies to address this trend.

Summary: Ride-sharing and vehicle-pooling are popular trends in the sharing economy, but require effective matching mechanisms and fair cost-sharing methods. This paper sheds light on principles of decentralized ride-sharing and vehicle-pooling mechanisms based on stable matching, and presents various fair cost-sharing mechanisms and their outcomes. The results show that some fair cost-sharing mechanisms can achieve high social optimality, which is corroborated by an empirical study on taxi sharing in New York City.
