Summary: Immunologists have long been focused on the question of what causes a break in self-tolerance in autoimmunity. However, the author suggests that many autoimmune diseases may actually stem from defects in normal tissue physiology.

Summary: In the past few decades, collaboration among pediatric stroke researchers has greatly influenced the care of children with stroke. While risk factors and presentation of childhood stroke have been described, comprehensive treatment data for children is limited compared to adult stroke research. Incorporating the unique neurodevelopmental and etiologic aspects of childhood stroke in research questions and trial designs is essential to truly advancing care for this population.

Summary: Warm-up is beneficial for increasing body temperature and preparing athletes for training and competitions. It can also be used as a pedagogical and training moment. Individualized warm-ups can be beneficial and athletes should be educated about exploring different warm-up tasks.

Summary: It is important to differentiate between investigating symptoms and screening for diseases, taking into consideration the performance characteristics of tests for symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals at different risk levels. Positive test results should be followed up with patient education and care. Screening should benefit individuals and disease treatment should be in their best interests.

Summary: This article discusses the definition of educational crisis and the conceptualization of problems in the education system. The author points out some potential mistakes in addressing educational issues and uses the experience of the Yidan education prize to illustrate these complexities. The article suggests that the persistent crisis arises from a mismatch between expectations from education and the system's capacity to deliver, and that the political dynamics of decision-making play a critical role in educational transformation. Building a supportive social compact to change the political dynamics for realizing educational expectations is seen as a pragmatic way forward.

Summary: The panel agreed that both adults and children should be screened during clinical encounters by asking if they are exposed or have ever been exposed to smoke from any tobacco products in their usual environment. Consistent training, accountability, and policy and electronic health records interventions are needed to implement consistent screening. Increasing SHS screening will have a significant impact on public health and costs.

Summary: This study investigates whether Physiotherapists are asking the correct questions and in the correct way when screening for Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES). It found that most of the participants routinely asked questions about bladder, bowel function, and saddle anaesthesia, but only a few asked about sexual function. The study also revealed that not all participants framed the questions before asking them and there was discomfort surrounding the discussion of sexual function.

Summary: This critical analysis examines the current discourses on health disparities in oncology nursing, questioning the forces shaping these discourses, the embedded assumptions about health and power, and the need to ask the right questions. Despite the emphasis on prioritizing cancer-related health disparities, little progress has been made in improving outcomes, leading to moral and pragmatic challenges. It is suggested that a reevaluation of the concept of health disparities and a focus on health equity and ethical nursing research practices may be more effective in addressing disparities in cancer care.

Summary: Social cognition is crucial for successful social relationships, and older adults generally perform worse than younger adults in social-cognitive domains. Neurocognitive decline is considered a key factor in age-related decline, but other factors also contribute to age effects. This paper recontextualizes past evidence by considering motivation, task design, and representative samples, and suggests future research directions to enhance our understanding of social-cognitive aging.

Summary: Learning is essential for project-based organisations, and reflection plays a crucial role in learning within and between projects. This article examines the process of reflection and its conditions as a project learning mechanism, using a case study of five gate reviews at a Dutch contractor. The findings show that reflection is necessary but not sufficient for project learning, as it is influenced by the specific context and interpersonal dynamics of project work. To become an effective learning mechanism, reflection needs to progress to later phases and higher intensities, which depend on the relevance of the project issue, the motivation of project team members, and the support received.

Summary: Few IPV screening instruments have been validated for nonfemale populations, but participants showed high levels of understanding and acceptability of a screening instrument originally developed for women. This work addresses the lack of research on routine IPV screening with men, aiming to support improved health and response to violence for individuals across the gender spectrum.
