Summary: This study investigated the influence of CYP2D6 and CYP1A2 gene polymorphisms on the efficacy of duloxetine in reducing depressive and anxiety symptoms. The results showed that patients with higher CYP2D6 metabolic index achieved a greater reduction in anxiety symptoms. The occurrence of adverse drug reactions was associated with a lower reduction in anxiety symptoms. However, no significant associations were found between the studied gene polymorphisms and reduction in depressive symptoms. Personalizing treatment based on CYP2D6 and CYP1A2 gene polymorphisms can enhance the effectiveness of antidepressant therapy and improve patient outcomes.

Summary: Silexan, derived from Lavandula angustifolia, has been proven to have anxiolytic efficacy in subthreshold and generalized anxiety disorder, as well as positive effects on anxiety-related sleep disturbances. This meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled clinical trials shows that Silexan also has a beneficial effect on co-occurring depressive symptoms in patients with subthreshold anxiety and anxiety disorders, suggesting potential therapeutic implications for depressive disorders.

Summary: This study developed a machine learning algorithm that predicts the effectiveness of antidepressant medications in individual patients using resting EEG data. The algorithm successfully predicted the response to Sertraline or Placebo with over 80% accuracy. This research provides a cost-effective, non-invasive, and easily accessible tool for clinicians to enhance treatment effectiveness, speed up recovery time, reduce personal suffering, and decrease treatment costs.

Summary: The study found that a composite of age at disease onset, depression severity, duration of current episode, and obesity/overweight had a significantly higher predicted probability of response to ketamine infusion compared to any single marker. The strongest predictors of treatment response were younger age at disease onset and obesity/overweight, while longer duration of the current episode and greater depression severity at baseline were the strongest predictors of treatment nonresponse.

Summary: In the absence of effective treatment for NASH, RCTs are the gold standard study design. Adverse events in the placebo arm can serve as a comparator for safety evaluation. This systematic review and meta-analysis found that 68% of placebo-treated NASH participants experienced adverse events, with 7.8% experiencing serious events.

Summary: This study investigated whether micronutrients can improve anxiety and depression symptoms in an adult community setting. The results showed that the micronutrient group had faster improvements on both the PHQ-9 and GAD-7. For specific subgroups, such as younger participants, those from lower socioeconomic groups, and those who had previously tried psychiatric medication, micronutrients may offer greater potential as an intervention.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the heterogeneity of symptoms in patients with MDD and identified four different MDD phenotypes. The findings suggest that the heterogeneity in MDD may explain treatment response variations. These results can be used to study recovery rates following treatment and develop clinical decision support tools and artificial intelligence algorithms.

Summary: This study will conduct a systematic review comparing the effects of duloxetine with different types of placebos or no intervention in patients with major depressive disorder. The research will evaluate bias domains, conduct meta-analyses and trial sequential analysis to assess the certainty of evidence. Primary outcomes will include differences in depression scores and serious adverse events.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the precision of previous research on the prevalence of depressive symptoms among medical students by gathering individual participant data (IPD). The findings showed that the pooled prevalence obtained from IPD meta-analysis was lower compared to previous meta-analyses using aggregated data. Age, sex, and year of study were significantly associated with the depression z-score.
