Summary: Telemedicine in pediatric headache treatment shows potential benefits in reducing headache frequency and severity, while also providing convenience for patients to overcome geographic and financial barriers. Despite limited research available in this field, telemedicine has shown to be safe, efficacious, and feasible in treating pediatric headache.

Summary: This study examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on obesity and BMI among children and adolescents with chronic conditions. The results showed an increase in obesity prevalence and BMI z score during the pandemic, particularly among children aged 5 to 13 years and 13 to 18 years. The study also found that male, Black, Hispanic, and children prescribed antihypertensives experienced the highest increases in obesity prevalence.

Summary: The study found that a higher frequency of headache was associated with lower RRs and higher VR, while headache diagnosis did not significantly influence the risk of low RRs or high VR. Females and individuals with psychosocial adjustment problems were predictors of low RRs, and prenatal exposure to tobacco was a predictor of high VR in adolescents with primary headache.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between screen use (type and duration) and school headache disability in adolescents. The results showed no significant correlation between type or duration of screen exposure and headache frequency, school attendance, or school functioning. However, there was a small positive association between increasing duration of computer use, total hours screen use, and school absenteeism.

Summary: There is a high prevalence of migraines among adolescents with BD compared to healthy controls, with similar correlates to those found in adults, including the association with the depressive polarity of BD. Future prospective studies are needed to evaluate the temporal associations between migraines and mood symptoms, as well as the neurobiological and cardiovascular underpinnings of these associations.

Summary: Repetitive neuromuscular magnetic stimulation (rNMS) is a feasible and safe treatment for pediatric headache disorders, providing relief from headache symptoms. This study found that rNMS targeting the upper trapezius muscles significantly increased pressure pain thresholds (PPT) and sustained the effects for 3 months. The effectiveness of rNMS varied depending on the type of headache and the presence of neck pain, with patients with neck pain responding better to treatment. Two rNMS sessions per week led to the highest reduction in headache frequency.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed data of 112 adolescents who received calcitonin gene-related peptide monoclonal antibody treatment, showing a significant reduction in headache frequency at first and second follow-up visits. Some patients perceived significant benefits and functional improvements, while injection site reactions and constipation were the most common side effects, leading to treatment discontinuation in a small proportion of patients.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical course and prognostic factors of pediatric migraine. The study found that familial neurological comorbidity and sleep disorders were unfavorable factors for predicting the long-term prognosis of pediatric migraine. However, patients with severe migraine pain admitted to the emergency department had a similar prognosis to those in outpatient samples.

Summary: Post-traumatic headache is a common sequela of traumatic brain injury and significant progress has been made in understanding its clinical features and identifying effective therapies. This disorder is increasingly recognized as heterogeneous, with different subphenotypes potentially responding better to specific therapies. More evidence-based research is needed to address the current shortcomings in diagnostic criteria and treatment selection.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognostic performance of the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) and an age-based modification (NEWS+age) in COVID-19 patients. Patients with low NEWS scores had shorter hospital stays, lower disease severity, and a negative predictive value of 97.2% for progression to invasive ventilation or death.

Summary: The study found that SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies and T cells could still be detected 12 months after infection, with higher frequencies of SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4 T cells and antibodies seen in severe cases at 12 months. Additionally, polyfunctional and cytotoxic T cells responsive to SARS-CoV-2 were identified even in participants with a wide spectrum of disease severity.

Summary: In the first month after COVID-19 infection, older age, being of Asian, Black, or Hispanic race/ethnicity, and obesity are associated with an increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 hospitalization. Some acute cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection require long-term oxygen therapy, and the infection has a significant impact on short-term functional status. A considerable number of MHS beneficiaries had not returned to normal activities by 1 month post-infection.
