Three strains of Aeromonas hydrophila subspecies dhakensis, including the type strain, were subjected to phylogenetic analysis by sequencing gyrB, rpoD, and 16S rRNA genes and compared with all known Aeromonas species. The obtained gyrB and rpoD phylogenetic trees clearly suggested that these A. hydrophila subsp. dhakensis strains indeed belong to the species A. aquariorum. This finding may indicate that, at the time of dhakensis'' subspecies description, the strains were incorrectly identified as A. hydrophila by a polyphasic approach that included DNA-DNA hybridization.

Bioactive polysaccharides from medicinal mushrooms: A review on their isolation, structural characteristics and antitumor activity

Summary: Studies have shown that mushrooms, especially their polysaccharides known as 8-glucans, can enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, improving the quality of life for cancer patients. These effects are attributed to the polysaccharides' wide range of biological activities and their ability to interact with immune cells and directly target cancer cells. However, the precise mechanisms of action and the role of 8-glucans in the immune system and cancer therapy still need further investigation.

Mesenchymal Stem Cell Studies in the Goat Model for Biomedical Research-A Review of the Scientific Literature

Summary: This review article compiles the research conducted over the last two decades on the use of goats as an animal model in preclinical studies involving stem cells for the treatment of injuries or diseases in various organ systems. The findings suggest that the caprine model is particularly suited for studying stem cells in the musculoskeletal system and has limited but significant applications in other fields such as dermatology, ophthalmology, dentistry, pneumology, cardiology, and urology. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) show promise in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine due to their ability to differentiate into different cell types and their immunomodulatory and regenerative properties. Appropriate animal models, such as goats, are essential for the development and evaluation of regenerative medicine treatments and future clinical trials in humans.

Potential Pathogenicity of Aeromonas spp. Recovered in River Water, Soil, and Vegetation from a Natural Recreational Area

Summary: This study investigated the presence of Aeromonas species in a river recreational environment, and found that they were present in all samples, with Aeromonas popoffii being the most prevalent species. Some strains showed a high level of cell damage and intracellular bacterial survival, as well as the presence of various virulence factors. In addition, these strains exhibited resistance to some antibiotics used in both human and animal therapeutics. Therefore, this study suggests that the presence of Aeromonas in this environment may pose a potential biosanitary risk and could be a public health problem.

Delftia acidovorans has been found to have coaggregating ability through polysaccharide-protein and protein-protein interactions. Hydroethanolic extracts obtained from four edible mushroom species were characterized for their antioxidant, antibacterial, and cosmeceutical potential. The extract with the best properties was incorporated into a cosmetic cream.

Hydrocinnamic Acid and Perillyl Alcohol Potentiate the Action of Antibiotics against Escherichia coli

Summary: The treatment of bacterial infections is hindered by increasing antibiotic resistance, prompting the search for new antimicrobial therapies. Phytochemicals have shown broad-spectrum antibacterial effects and can modify antibiotic resistance. This study investigated the antimicrobial actions of perillyl alcohol and hydrocinnamic acid against Escherichia coli, as well as their combinations with chloramphenicol and amoxicillin. The results demonstrated synergistic or additive effects at low concentrations, highlighting the potential of combinatorial therapies using phytochemicals as potentiators or resistance-modifying agents.

Equine Gram-Negative Oral Microbiota: An Antimicrobial Resistances Watcher?

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the oral Gram-negative microbiota of healthy horses and evaluate their antimicrobial susceptibility profile. Samples were collected from the gingival margin of healthy horses, cultured, identified, and tested for antimicrobial susceptibility. The results showed that a large proportion of the isolates were zoonotic, affecting both humans and the environment, and a high percentage of them were multidrug-resistant.

An Overview of Cefiderocol's Therapeutic Potential and Underlying Resistance Mechanisms

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance continues to increase globally and treatment of difficult-to-treat infections remains a challenge. The recent approval of cefiderocol has provided an additional treatment option. However, resistant mechanisms have already been identified and reduced susceptibility has developed during patient treatment, highlighting the need for rational use of cefiderocol. This review summarizes current treatments against resistant bacteria and discusses the mechanism of action, therapeutic potential, and reported resistance mechanisms of cefiderocol.

Assessing the ecological potential of reservoirs: a principal response curve (PRC) analysis approach

First Report of Kocuria kristinae in the Skin of a Cuban Boa (Epicrates angulifer)

Summary: A skin lesion was observed during a routine clinical examination of a four-year-old female Cuban boa in a zoo in northern Portugal, and a bacteriological analysis identified the presence of a new bacterial pathogen, Kocuria kristinae, which showed multidrug resistance. This is the first report of K. kristinae in the skin of a Cuban boa, emphasizing the importance of recognizing its potential pathogenicity and contributing to the prevention of antibiotic-resistant microorganism spread.

Unveiling the Potential of Unexplored Winery By-Products from the Dao Region: Phenolic Composition, Antioxidants, and Antimicrobial Properties

Summary: The winery industry generates significant amounts of organic waste, such as pruning firewood, stems, and wine lees, which can cause environmental issues and affect the economic sustainability and competitiveness of the industry. This study analyzed the phenolic composition of these by-products and evaluated the effectiveness of pruning firewood and stem extracts in inhibiting the growth of bacteria from diabetic foot wounds. The results showed promising antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of these extracts, with potential implications for antibiotic resistance.
