Summary: This study aimed to investigate the change in dynamic optical quality in dry eye patients after the use of artificial tears. The study found that optical quality indices were significantly higher in dry eye patients compared to the control group, but decreased significantly after 5 minutes of artificial tear instillation in severe dry eye patients. There were no significant differences in optical quality parameters among the three groups after 30 minutes.

Summary: This study aimed to prepare extemporaneous 20 mg/mL ganciclovir in artificial tears and compare its stability with that of ganciclovir in sterile water for ophthalmic administration. The results showed that ganciclovir/0.1% HYA eyedrops had good stability at different temperatures and could be used as home medications for the treatment of ophthalmic viral infections.

Summary: The study aimed to identify specific tear biomarkers for dry eye disease (DED) through tear proteomic analysis and clinical parameters. The results showed improvements in tear break-up time, corneal erosion, conjunctival erosion, and symptom assessment scores after treatment. However, no significant differences were found among the different drug groups, except for corneal erosion score. Useful tear protein biomarkers, clinically acceptable biomarker combinations, and adequate levels of specificity and sensitivity were not identified.

Summary: The study analyzed the trends in topical prescription treatment for elderly patients with dry eye disease in China, revealing an increase in treatment cost and medication use. Ocular lubricants were the main treatment option, with sodium hyaluronate being the most frequently used drug. These observed trends have the potential to lead to more efficient allocation of healthcare resources in China.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to analyze inflammation-and pain-related molecules in tears of patients suffering from chronic ocular pain associated with dry eye and/or a previous corneal refractive surgery. The study found that IL-10 and SP levels in tears were increased in patients with a history of corneal refractive surgery. IL-9 levels were associated with chronic ocular pain. These findings suggest that tear cytokines and neuromodulators could serve as biomarkers for chronic ocular pain, leading to improved therapeutic and disease management decisions.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to analyze inflammation- and pain-related molecules in tears of patients suffering from chronic ocular pain associated with dry eye and/or a previous corneal refractive surgery. The results showed that IL-9 tear levels were increased in patients with chronic ocular pain, IL-10, SP, MIP-1 alpha/CCL3, IL-2, and IFN-gamma were associated with previous surgery, and IL-8/CXCL8, MIP-1 alpha/CCL3, IL-2, and IFN-gamma were associated with DE-related inflammation. Higher NGF levels were related to chronic ocular pain and DE in patients with previous surgery. These findings are important for understanding biomarkers of chronic ocular pain and making better therapeutic and disease management decisions.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic power of strip meniscometry, Schirmer test, and tear meniscus in mild dry eye disease and found that strip meniscometry was the most relevant factor to Dry Eye Disease Index scores and tear film break-up time. Additionally, measurements obtained by optical coherence tomography had better diagnostic power than Schirmer test.

Summary: The tear film lipid layer (TFLL) plays a crucial role in maintaining high-quality vision, protecting the cornea, and promoting wound healing. Plasma rich in growth factor (PRGF) eye drops have emerged as a new treatment for aqueous deficient dry eye. This study compared the lipid profiles of PRGF eye drops with tears and found that the lipids in PRGF eye drops could be used as a supplement for altered tear lipid composition.

Summary: The SERS-LM developed is capable of detecting glucose in human tears using a layer-by-layer structure composed of SF, AgNWs coated with MPBA, and PF. With a high density of hotspots for Raman signal enhancement, the SERS-LM demonstrates excellent glucose sensing performance within the concentration range of 500 nM - 1 mM. Furthermore, the tear glucose levels measured by the SERS-LM reflect trends of corresponding blood glucose levels, verifying its feasibility for noninvasive glucose sensing and potential application in various wearable personal health monitoring systems.

Summary: The tear film stability of a rabbit dry eye model induced by dacryoadenectomy was assessed in this study. The results showed that this model partially captured the phenotypes of human short TBUT-type dry eye, making it a potentially useful animal model for investigating potential drug candidates.
