Summary: This study aimed to determine the frequency of sensitizations to 30 EBS allergens and 10 locally added allergens, as well as to assess the strength and evolution of reactions to all tested allergens and co-reactivity of additional allergens. The results showed that 8 allergens not listed in the EBS had a prevalence rate of >= 0.5%, and 16.6% of positive reactions would have been missed without D6/7 readings. Further studies are proposed to evaluate whether these allergens need to be added to the EBS.

Summary: Crowded teeth can have an impact on a child's self-esteem and quality of life. Early loss of baby teeth may lead to crowded permanent teeth. Orthodontic intervention can help prevent or correct crowded teeth in children.

Summary: The Human Repeated Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) has been widely used in the fragrance industry to confirm the absence of skin sensitization at a defined dose. After accumulated experience of over 30 years, most studies have shown that sensitization was not induced at the selected HRIPT dose, but a minority of cases exist. New sensitization induction is rare but important as an indicator that toxicological predictions from nonhuman test methods can be imperfect.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the predictors of allergic sensitisation to titanium and nickel in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. The results showed that age, sex, exfoliative cheilitis, history of contact hypersensitivity, history of contact hypersensitivity to metals, and piercings were predictors of metal allergic sensitisation in these patients.

Summary: After intraoral exposure, the stiffness and hardness of nickel-titanium alloy were significantly reduced, while roughness and friction were not affected. Fluorides and chlorhexidine do not increase corrosion or modify the mechanical properties of the material.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the prevalence of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in orthodontic patients undergoing fixed appliance treatment. The results showed that the prevalence of SRB was significantly higher in orthodontic patients compared to non-orthodontic participants. This may be attributed to the presence of stainless steel in the oral environment facilitating the colonization of SRB.

Summary: The study suggests that 1.0% cobalt chloride patch testing is more suitable than 0.5%, with a higher detection rate of cobalt allergy. It also found that a majority of individuals allergic to cobalt do not have a co-allergy to nickel.

Summary: This research aimed to determine the optimal heat treatment temperature and duration for NiTi-closed coil springs, revealing that heat treatment at 500 degrees Celsius for 40 minutes can produce appropriate force delivery levels with lower plateau slope and less hysteresis for orthodontic use.

Summary: This review outlines the most commonly used quantitative sensory tests to identify pain sensitization in knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Findings suggest that lower PPT thresholds, inefficient CPM, and facilitated TS are common in knee OA patients, and that QST measures are more closely associated with pain severity than OA radiographic severity. QST may have a role in personalized, more effective treatment of OA.

Summary: The review examined the potential link between nickel hypersensitivity and complications of total hip replacement, with varying prevalence rates reported in different studies. The role and necessity of patch testing also did not reach a consensus, indicating further large-scale studies are needed to investigate this relationship.

Summary: The study investigated the potential influence of released metal ions from orthodontic appliances on living organisms by analyzing the gene expression of metallothionein in lung, liver, and brain tissues of domestic pigs. The results showed differences in metallothionein concentrations in experimental group animals, indicating a possible alteration of physiological functions in lung tissue.

Summary: The study found that 59% of joint failure patients were sensitized to implanted components, with a higher risk in younger patients, while most patients had no clear history of reactions to allergenic materials. Revisions using non-sensitizing materials for sensitized patients resulted in significant improvements in symptoms.
