Summary: The aim of this review is to consolidate the current literature on faecal impaction in the elderly population. This review identifies multiple associated factors, explores management options and potential complications, and highlights the importance of preventative measures. Further research and improved data collection methods are needed in this area.

Summary: This study analyzed 140 patients with active UC treated with FMT, showing that younger age, disease extent E2, and endoscopic Mayo score 2 significantly predict the achievement of clinical remission in active UC with FMT. The prediction model developed in this study can aid in selecting individuals for FMT, but further validation in larger cohorts is necessary.

Summary: The study described the prevalence of protozoan infections in fecal samples from adult sheep and goats on dairy farms across Greece, and identified several farm-related factors potentially associated with the presence of these infections. Different protozoa were found to be more prevalent in samples from farms with specific factors such as lack of designated buildings for lambs, availability of main buildings for animals, and lack of grazing and certain management systems. Farmers' perception of diarrhea as an important health problem in lambs/kids was also found to be significantly associated with the presence of protozoa.

Summary: This study found possible correlations between unilateral and bilateral palatally impacted maxillary canine, palatal dimensions, and maxillary arch perimeter using digital measurements. These factors could be used as predictors for maxillary palatal canine impaction.

Summary: This study analyzed complications in a large cohort of patients undergoing surgery for sinonasal malignancy, finding a low mortality rate and a higher rate of severe complications. Advanced T-stage was significantly associated with postoperative complications, indicating the importance of preoperative risk stratification based on tumor characteristics.

Summary: This study identified risk factors predicting post-traumatic obstetric complications in pregnant women who presented to the emergency department with traumatic injuries, including advanced maternal age, trauma in the third trimester, and abnormal obstetric ultrasonography findings. These factors should alert physicians to the possibility of post-traumatic complications and the need for close monitoring within the first 24 hours after trauma.

Summary: The hindgut microbiota of horses with free faecal water (FFW) did not show significant differences compared to healthy horses, but faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) temporarily alleviated FFW symptoms without causing lasting changes in the hindgut microbiota. Further studies with controls are needed to confirm the effectiveness of FMT in treating FFW.

Summary: This study aimed to identify nutritional indicators and physiological characteristics associated with wound infection in soft tissue sarcoma patients. Results showed that postoperative plasma glucose levels, preoperative albumin levels, and smoking status were useful variables in predicting wound infection in STS excisional procedures.

Summary: Preoperative information from polysomnogram (PSG) can help predict severe respiratory events (SRE) after adenotonsillectomy (AT) in children. Those with SRE were younger and had more medical comorbidities. PICU admission is recommended for children with complex medical comorbidities, AHI > 30, or O-2 nadir <70%.

Summary: The aim of this study was to establish dose-volume predictors for patient-reported late bowel toxicities and derive constraints for clinical use to reduce the risk of these toxicities. The results showed that the sigmoid colon and large bowel are important organs at risk for the development of faecal urgency, incontinence, and diarrhoea. Promising constraints for these organs were derived, which require further validation before prospective clinical use.

Summary: An analysis of the German nationwide inpatient sample from 2005 to 2016 found that hospitalizations for heart failure increased during this period, while the inhospital case fatality rate and major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event rate decreased. Independent predictors of inhospital death included age 70 years and older and a diagnosis of cancer.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to examine the course and predictors of psychological distress among colorectal cancer survivors with ostomies. The results showed that survivors generally experience psychological distress, especially at the first and third month after surgery. Factors such as no religious belief, spouse caregiver, peristomal skin complications, and stomal complications were associated with higher levels of psychological distress.

Summary: This study aims to address the gaps in knowledge about acute compartment syndrome (ACS) by utilizing a big data approach. The findings suggest that the extent of soft tissue damage is closely linked to ACS, and comorbidities such as cirrhosis and hypertension may increase the risk of ACS.
