Summary: Laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS) is characterized by fibrotic narrowing of the larynx and trachea and the involvement of CD4+ T cells. This study investigates the role of mTOR signaling in CD4+ T cells in promoting LTS fibrosis and suggests that targeting mTOR with sirolimus can effectively treat LTS by inhibiting profibrotic Th17 cells. The findings also suggest the possibility of local delivery of sirolimus with a drug-eluting stent for LTS treatment.

Summary: Localized drug delivery with sustained elution characteristics from nanocarrier coated stents is a viable therapeutic approach to address concerns related to coronary stent therapy. A Sirolimus and Bivalirudin releasing nanoparticles (NPs) coated stent was fabricated for concurrent mitigation of vascular restenosis and acute stent thrombosis, showing superior anti-proliferative activity and higher cellular uptake in human coronary artery smooth muscle cells.

Summary: Solubilization plays a crucial role in dissolving hydrophobic materials in water. This study focuses on controlling solubilization and release of solubilized materials through external stimulation. An amphoteric surfactant, SB-12, was used and pH change was chosen as the external stimulus. Surface tension and absorbance measurements revealed that pH had minimal effect on the adsorption behavior and micelle formation of SB-12, whereas solubilization behavior depended significantly on pH. Moreover, the solubilization ability was much greater under basic conditions compared to acidic or neutral conditions. This study provides insights into the mechanism of release for solubilized materials due to pH change.

The 1-year incidence rates of target lesion failure and stent thrombosis were 3.10% and 0.33%, respectively, in patients treated with HELIOS stents. These results provide clinical evidence for evaluating the HELIOS stent by interventional cardiologists and policymakers.

Summary: The micellization behavior of linear triblock copolymer Pluronic (R) F88 in aqueous potassium chloride (KCl) solutions was investigated using various physicochemical techniques. The study revealed the dehydration of copolymer coil in a 5% w/v F88 KCl electrolyte environment and a decrease in micellization temperature with an increase in KCl concentration. Salting out effects on PEO and PPO blocks were measured using spectral techniques.

Summary: Coronary artery aneurysms after drug eluting stents are rare, and this study presents a case series of type II coronary aneurysms after implantation of Everolimus eluting stents. The slight increase in incidence in Everolimus stents does not reach statistical significance, and there was better outcomes with surgical repair for patients with giant aneurysms compared to covered stent deployment. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: In this study, a highly effective surfactant producer strain, Bacillus Cereus GX7, was isolated from the oil tank bottom sludge of Shengli Oil Field in China. The biosurfactant produced by GX7 was identified as surfactin, a lipopeptide surfactant, through TLC, FT-IR, and LC-MS/MS analysis. The fermentation process of GX7 was optimized using single-factor experiments, focusing on the composition of fermentation medium and fermentation conditions. Glucose and peptone were found to be the best carbon and nitrogen sources, and the optimum temperature, inoculum amount, pH, rotation speed, and fermentation time for the strain were determined to be 30°C, 1%, 7.5, 150 rpm, and 48 h, respectively. After optimization, the surface tension and emulsification index of the fermentation broth were 26.84 mN/m and 57.84%, respectively. Furthermore, the biosurfactant produced by GX7 demonstrated good stability over a wide range of temperature, pH, and salt concentration.

Summary: Effective management of biofluids is crucial for in vivo surgical interventions. Recent advances include self-sealing needles, drug-eluting stents, and shear-thinning hydrogels. However, complications associated with intestinal mucosal injury and secondary damage still persist. In this study, researchers developed an interpenetrating Janus wettability stent coating that enables unidirectional draining of excessive biofluid. They also demonstrated directional biofluid movement using a self-pumping dressing with potential applications in biofluid collection and disease diagnosis through metal ion detection. This integrated system presents an opportunity for designing wound dressings with effective biofluid management and metal ion detection capabilities.
