Summary: This systematic review examines the neural basis and influencing factors of expressive suppression. The results show that expressive suppression increases activation in the frontoparietal regions, reduces activation in the temporo-occipital regions, and shows inconsistent findings regarding the involvement of the insula and amygdala. These findings highlight the importance of distinguishing expressive suppression from other forms of suppression and emphasize the need for more attention to experimental design and neuroimaging data analysis procedures.

Summary: The study investigates the dynamic cellular processes by which olfactory receptor neurons target axons to specific glomeruli in the olfactory circuit of Drosophila. Through time-lapse imaging and fast imaging techniques, the researchers identified the mechanisms involved in ipsilateral targeting and revealed the dynamics of axon branching upon approaching the target. These observations provide insights into the cellular basis of wiring specificity establishment.

Summary: Preclinical studies have suggested a dysfunction in the noradrenergic system in cocaine addiction. Human studies on this system have been limited due to difficulties in localizing the locus coeruleus. This study found that chronic cocaine exposure may lead to increased intensity of neuromelanin signal in the locus coeruleus, indicating neurotoxic effects. Additionally, cue-induced connectivity between the parahippocampal gyrus and locus coeruleus was positively correlated with chronic cocaine craving, suggesting a noradrenergic correlate of craving.

Summary: The structure of social networks is linked to brain activity, while functional properties rely on multilayered brain-social network interactions. Variation in neuroendocrine system and gene predictors influence an individual's social network structure. Future studies should explore the effects of cognitive abilities, characteristics of social networks in mental illness, and the neural mechanisms behind changes in social networks over time.

Summary: Non-invasive brain stimulation methods, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), are being evaluated for the treatment of addictive disorders. This study investigated the effects of active and sham tDCS as an add-on treatment for smoking cessation. The results showed that tDCS combined with a brief intervention may support smoking cessation, but further studies are needed to evaluate longer and more intensive treatment.

Summary: Zolpidem has a paradoxical effect in restoring brain function in neurological disorders, but its underlying mechanism is poorly understood. This study investigated the brain function changes in a patient with pediatric cerebellar mutism syndrome after taking zolpidem, and found that the symptoms improved. The imaging results showed decreased cerebral blood flow and functional connectivity in certain brain regions, which were restored after zolpidem intake. These findings suggest that zolpidem affects the broader speech network and thalamo-subcortical interactions, highlighting the need for further research on its mechanism in neurological recovery.

Summary: This systematic review summarizes studies on the effects of benzodiazepines (BZDs) on sleep architecture. The results indicate that BZDs increase stage 2 of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and decrease the time of stages 3 and 4 of NREM sleep, as well as the time of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep during nocturnal sleep. These variations may lead to deficits in concentration, working memory, and weight gain. Therefore, prescribing BZDs requires caution and close monitoring for potential long-term side effects.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the satisfaction of patients using the Telepsychiatry service offered by the Department of Psychiatry of the Hospital de Clinicas. A total of 530 patients were included, and the results showed that overall, patients were satisfied with the quality of care in Telepsychiatry, especially regarding the perception of health care. However, the satisfaction with the doctor-patient relationship was lower. Among the interviewed psychiatrists, 87.5% expressed satisfaction with the Telepsychiatry service.

Summary: The review aimed to find the specificities in the relationship between urbanization and alcohol use epidemiology in the current century. Lower rates of alcohol use among adolescents in urban environments are observed, but this difference diminishes and disappears by adulthood. Factors such as stress, mental health problems, homelessness, loneliness, and deprivation are related to alcohol use in metropolitan areas.

Summary: Stigma and discrimination in the field of mental health have significant negative impacts on patient outcomes, access to and acceptability of treatment interventions, quality of life, overall well-being, social inclusion, and opportunities. Social stereotypes, cultural factors, and prejudices contribute to continued discrimination in mental health. Work and educational environments can also be sources of discrimination. Lack of knowledge and understanding of mental health/illness among individuals, families, caregivers, policymakers, and media reporting further contribute to social attitudes towards discrimination. Stigma has been found to particularly affect specific social minorities such as the elderly, youths, sexual minorities, and persons with disabilities who report poor mental health. Educational programs, awareness trainings, and effective public policies can be developed to reduce social stigma and improve outcomes for people with mental illness.

Summary: Trait anxiety tends to decrease with age, possibly due to reduced ability to process emotional stimuli and improved regulation of emotions. In a study of 88 adults aged 21 to 85 using fMRI, it was found that anxiety was negatively correlated with age. While there was no evidence supporting the hypotheses of delayed reaction time or diminished limbic/emotional circuit, the findings indicated that higher automaticity in processing negative emotions may contribute to decreased anxiety with age.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the correlates of involuntary substance use disorder (SUD) treatment across different countries. The findings suggest that male, unmarried individuals with alcohol and/or opioid use disorders are at a higher risk of involuntary treatment. Targeted preventive and therapeutic interventions addressing underlying factors such as psychosis, aggressiveness, suicidal ideation, legal problems, and severe social exposure are crucial for improving outcomes and reducing the burden of SUD.
