Rotator cuff tears are a common clinical problem that increases with age from an incidence of 4% in those aged 40 to 60 years to more than 54% in those older than 60 years. The purpose of this article is to review the current evidence regarding outcomes of surgical techniques in rotator cuff surgery. Future research should be aimed at identifying whether and in whom rotator cuff healing is appropriate to better identify surgical candidates as well as to determine the best surgical repair strategy.
