INTRODUCTION: There is still no consensus among different specialists on the Subject of kinematic variation during the hemiparetic gait, including the main changes that take place during the gait cycle and whether the gait velocity changes the patterns of joint mobility. One of the most frequently discussed joints is the knee. OBJECTIVES: This Study aims to evaluate the variables found in the angular kinematics of knee joint, and to describe the alterations found in the hemiparetic gait resulting from cerebrovascular injury. METHODS: This study included 66 adult patients of both genders with a diagnosis of either right or left hemiparesis resulting from ischemic cerebrovascular injury. All the participants underwent three-dimensional gait evaluation, an the angular kinematics of the joint knee were selected for analysis. RESULTS: The results were distributed into four groups formed based on the median of the gait speed and the side of hemiparesis. CONCLUSIONS: The relevant clinical characteristics included the important mechanisms of loading response in the stance, knee hyperextension in single stance, and reduction of the peak flexion and movement amplitude of the knee in the swing phase. These mechanisms should be taken into account when choosing the best treatment. We believe that the findings presented here may aid in preventing the occurrence of the problems found, and also in identifying the origin of these problems.

Correlation of pain sensitization with muscle strength and angular kinematics in women with patellofemoral pain

Tadeu Aldrovando Brihy de Albuquerque, Richard Eloin Liebano, Daniela Aparecida Biasotto-Gonzalez, Cintia Lopes Ferreira, Paulo Roberto Garcia Lucareli

Summary: The study found that women with patellofemoral pain had lower pressure pain thresholds and higher movement deviation, but no differences were observed in temporal summation, conditioned pain modulation, muscle strength, and discrete kinematic values. Additionally, there were no significant correlations between movement deviation and pressure pain thresholds.

Summary: This study used a mixed methods inquiry to cross-validate the concept of quality of life (QoL) and the International Spinal Cord Injury Quality of Life Basic DataSet (SCI QoL-BDS) items across different countries. The results showed good cross-cultural validity for the SCI QoL-BDS, although there were some variations in the themes used to describe QoL.

Is there a correlation between isometric muscle strength and the kinematics of the pelvis, hip and knee during functional tasks in women with patellofemoral pain?

Alyne Soares, Lopes Ferreira Cintia, Neal Robert Glaviano, Nayra Deise dos Anjos Rabelo, Paulo Roberto Garcia Lucareli

Summary: For women with patellofemoral pain, we found weak correlation between knee extensor strength and knee flexion during the landing phase of the single leg hop test, and moderate correlation between hip abductor strength and range of motion of the pelvis in the frontal plane during ascending stairs.

Summary: This international pilot study surveyed acute and rehabilitation facilities to understand the status of spinal cord injury care. The results showed that on average, the selected indicators for traumatic spinal cord injury care were broadly available, with facilities adhering to 74% of the indicators. The study also found that some indicators were equally well met by both high-income and low and middle-income countries, while others were harder to meet for low and middle-income countries. Variability was also observed between acute and rehabilitation facilities for the same indicators.

The Movement Deviation Profile Can Differentiate Faller and Non-Faller Older Adults

Cintia Elord Julio, Fernanda Colella Antonialli, Tamara Medeiros do Nascimento, Karina Araujo Sa, Gabor Jozsef Barton, Paulo Roberto Garcia Lucareli

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine if functional tasks can differentiate fall risk in older adults using movement deviation analysis. The results showed that movement deviation could differentiate fallers from non-fallers, with the greatest difference observed in stair descent.

Effect of osteopathic visceral manipulation for individuals with functional constipation and chronic nonspecific low back pain: Randomized controlled trial

Walkyria Vilas Boas Fernandes, Fabiano Politti, Cleofas Rodriguez Blanco, Paulo Roberto Garcia Lucareli, Fidelis de Paula Gomes, Cid Andre Fidelis de Paula Gomes, Fernanda Ishida Correa, Joao Carlos Ferrari Correa

Summary: This study investigated the effect of osteopathic visceral manipulation (OVM) on disability and pain intensity in individuals with functional constipation and chronic nonspecific low back pain. The results showed that the OVM group had a reduction in pain intensity and improvement in disability after six weeks of treatment and three-month follow-up, while the sham group also had a reduction in pain at the three-month follow-up. This conclusion was supported by the numeric rating scale and Oswestry Disability Index.
