Summary: This study aimed to verify the clinical efficacy of a closed-loop rehabilitation program combining melodic intonation therapy (MIT) with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for post-stroke aphasia (PSA). The results showed that MIT combined with tDCS had a better effect on language and cognitive recovery in aphasia compared to conventional therapy.

Summary: The study found that the self-led therapy app 'Listen-In' significantly improved spoken language comprehension in aphasia patients. Individuals with chronic aphasia can still improve their spoken word comprehension many years after stroke. The results contribute to the hemispheric debates implicating the right hemisphere in therapy-driven language recovery.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) probiotic on COVID-19 infection status and the gut microbiome in subjects with a household contact who has tested positive for COVID-19. A double-blinded, randomised, placebo-controlled trial will be conducted to investigate how LGG impacts the susceptibility to COVID-19 and disease severity, as well as its potential beneficial changes in the gut microbiome.

Summary: Hydroxyurea can increase fetal hemoglobin percentage and reduce erythropoietic stress in patients with transfusion-dependent beta-thalassaemia. It can also reduce the transfusion burden in approximately 40% of patients. The response to hydroxyurea is higher in patients with HbE beta-thalassaemia genotype and Xmn1 polymorphism of the gamma-globin gene.

Summary: This study investigated the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma for COVID-19 pneumonia. A randomized controlled trial was conducted in a population with high HIV prevalence and limited therapeutic options. The trial showed that convalescent plasma did not significantly improve clinical symptoms, indicating that the use of convalescent plasma for COVID-19 pneumonia is not recommended.

Summary: This study suggests that metformin, an insulin sensitizer, can reverse insulin resistance and improve clinical outcomes in treatment-resistant bipolar depression. Converters, who no longer met insulin resistance criteria, experienced significant improvements in depression and functioning, and these improvements were sustained up to 26 weeks.

Summary: This study found that adjunctive L-theanine, when combined with sertraline, showed better efficacy in treating major depressive disorder (MDD) compared to placebo. The L-theanine group demonstrated significant improvement in depression symptoms and a greater reduction in depression scores compared to the placebo group at weeks 2, 4, and 6. Furthermore, the L-theanine group had higher remission and response rates at week 6. These findings suggest that L-theanine is a safe and effective adjunctive therapy for MDD.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of a McKenzie Method intervention with guideline-based patient education in patients with sciatica. The results showed that multiple sessions of McKenzie-based back exercises combined with a patient's educational book had similar long-term effects to guideline-based advice. However, the small sample size and confounding factors limited the power of these results.
