Summary: The relationship between stress and infertility is complex. Studies investigating cortisol levels in infertile patients compared to fertile controls and in infertile subjects that conceive or don't conceive at the end of assisted reproduction treatments have yielded inconsistent findings.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between maternal prenatal cortisol levels and infant cortisol reactivity during inoculation. The results showed that elevated prenatal cortisol levels in mothers are associated with a larger cortisol response in infants at 6 and 12 months when faced with a challenging event.

Summary: This study investigated the role of maternal caregiving in the association between multiple markers of maternal antenatal stress and infant stress regulation. The results provide the first evidence that maternal sensitive caregiving may eliminate the association between antenatal maternal cortisol and infant cortisol regulation.

Summary: Research suggests that stress and depression are linked, especially in high-risk groups. The perinatal period is known as a time of increased risk for depression, and pregnancy can affect cortisol levels. However, there is limited research on cortisol reactivity during pregnancy. This study examined whether cortisol reactivity before the COVID-19 pandemic predicted increases in depressive symptoms during the initial stage of the pandemic in perinatal and nulliparous women.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the effects of acute and chronic cannabinoid exposure on stress responses in humans and animals, showing that acute exposure increases stress hormones while chronic exposure is associated with dampened stress reactivity. The review also highlights the need for future research to understand sex differences in the effects of cannabis on stress responses and mental health outcomes.

Summary: This scoping review examines the association between stress before conception and during pregnancy with prenatal cortisol levels. The findings suggest that maternal childhood stress is associated with higher cortisol levels during pregnancy, while the association with preconception and prenatal stress is inconclusive.

Summary: Sex disparities in the biological response to acute stressors were investigated in this systematic review and meta-analysis, with a focus on the influence of ovarian hormones on HPA axis functioning. The study found higher cortisol reactivity in the luteal phase compared to the follicular phase, suggesting a difference in HPA axis reactivity between menstrual cycle phases. However, more high-quality primary studies are needed to further explore this association. This review was not funded and was pre-registered in PROSPERO.

Summary: Stress-response deficits are characteristic of schizophrenia and psychosis, and may also be evident in those at high risk for psychotic disorders. This study investigated biological and subjective stress reactivity in CHR individuals by conducting the TSST. The results showed that the CHR group had overall higher cortisol levels, while both groups exhibited an increase in alpha amylase levels in response to the stressor.

Summary: Early life exposure to adverse environments, particularly maternal stress, has been linked to increased risk for metabolic diseases and neurobehavioral disorders. This study examined the relationships among maternal precarity, HPA axis dysregulation, infant gut microbiome composition, and infant HPA axis functioning. The findings suggest that maternal precarity and HPA axis dysregulation are associated with changes in infant gut microbiome composition and HPA axis functioning.

Summary: Chronic psychosocial stress is recognized as a risk factor for sporadic Alzheimer's disease. Factors such as dysregulation of the HPA axis and elevated levels of cortisol may contribute to the disease process. Individual differences in sensitivities to glucocorticoid and stress responses could also impact an individual's risk of developing AD.

Summary: Higher intent suicide attempts are associated with an increased risk of future suicidal behavior. Dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is linked to both nonfatal suicidal behavior and suicide deaths in major depressive disorder. However, few studies have identified biological markers for a high-intent suicidal subgroup.

Summary: The study focused on the effects of an online version of the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) on cortisol, alpha amylase, pleasure, and arousal levels in adults. It also compared the cortisol responses between men and women. The results showed that the online TSST successfully induced psychophysiological stress in adults, with significant increases in cortisol, alpha amylase, and arousal levels, and a decrease in pleasure. Moreover, cortisol responses were found to be stronger in males compared to females.

Summary: The study found significant variations in wool quality indicators between pre- and post-parturition, with post-parturition ewes having finer wool but also maintaining high wool cortisol levels. Additionally, post-partum comfort factor, curvature, standard deviation, and spin fineness of the wool were all significantly reduced.

Summary: Household chaos is negatively associated with child executive functioning and effortful control, with informant-completed questionnaires showing a stronger effect compared to direct assessment. Further research is needed to explore the differences in construct measurement between questionnaire and direct assessment methods. Adopting a multi-method approach to assessment is recommended for a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between environmental features and child cognitive function.

Summary: This study found direct and indirect associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and multimorbidity in adulthood, with social engagement and allostatic load playing a mediating role. This is the first study to demonstrate mediated pathways between early adversity and multimorbidity, providing insight into the lifelong dynamic of multimorbidity.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between prenatal maternal affective symptoms and offspring internalizing problems, finding that negative emotionality serves as a potential mechanism linking the two. Results indicate significant relationships between maternal affective psychopathology, pregnancy-specific anxiety, and child internalizing factors. Additionally, child negative emotionality mediates the relationship between pregnancy-specific anxiety and child internalizing factors.
