Summary: This systematic review examined the impact of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) impairment across dental patient populations using four dimensions: Oral Function, Oro facial Pain, Oro facial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact. The review found standardized and clinically relevant information for a significant number of dental patient populations, providing a framework for interpreting OHRQoL impairment in clinical practice, public health, and research. Study quality was not associated with OHRQoL magnitude, and publication bias was found to be minimal.

Summary: The MOM project aims to provide four-dimensional oral health impact information across oral diseases and settings. The typical impact metrics for functional, pain-related, aesthetical, and psychosocial dimensions were found to be about 2 to 3 units, based on responses ranging from never to very often. The project also provides five recommendations to improve standardized oral health impact assessment for all oral diseases in all settings.

Summary: This study assessed the measurement of overall oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) construct and its four dimensions using several versions of OHIP, and provided recommendations for their use and scoring. The results showed high correlations between the summary scores of the 5, 14, 19, and 49 item versions, indicating similar measurement of OHRQoL across different versions. Based on the findings, it is recommended to use the 5-item OHIP version for psychometrically sound and practical assessment of OHRQoL.
