Summary: This case report describes the use of piezosurgery for bone augmentation in an atrophic edentulous space to achieve orthodontic tooth movement. The orthodontic corrections were performed with a clear aligner system, resulting in reduced treatment time and minimal discomfort for the patient.

Summary: Treatment with bovine milk extracellular vesicles (MEVs) improves alveolar bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) mice by reducing bone remodeling movement and increasing osteoblast and osteocyte number. MEVs treatment also decreases RANKL/OPG ratios and osteoclasts and odontoclasts activity in the maxillary bone.

Summary: The study evaluated cephalometric radiographs of 154 edentulous patients referred for implant provision, finding sufficient bone stock for implant placement but lingual inclination of the mandibular residual ridge due to resorption, making conventional implant placement challenging.

Summary: Granular-shaped carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) bone substitute shows good potential for alveolar ridge preservation by promoting bone growth and maintaining height and morphology of the alveolar bone during the 9-week post-surgery period. Therefore, CO3Ap granules may have promising clinical applications for alveolar ridge preservation.

Summary: Alveolar ridge preservation is crucial for maintaining ideal prosthetic positions, with tooth matrix as a bone substitute offering osteoconduction and osteoinduction properties without antigenic reactions. This biomaterial allows for three-dimensional bone reconstruction at a low cost.

Summary: This systematic review examined the effectiveness of autogenous dentin block grafts for alveolar ridge augmentation. Dentin blocks showed similar vertical bone gain and significantly higher width gain compared to bone blocks. The resorption rates and occurrence of complications were similar between the two groups. Autogenous dentin blocks could be a possible alternative to established bone augmentation techniques, but further studies are needed to confirm its efficacy.

Summary: The aim of this systematic review was to compare patient-reported outcomes after harvesting calvarial or anterior iliac crest bone grafts to repair severe jaw defects and enable implant placement. The review included 43 articles reporting 40 studies, and the meta-analysis of two studies showed no difference in satisfaction or postoperative pain between donor sites. However, the level of evidence is limited. Postoperative gait disturbances were highly prevalent among the anterior iliac crest patients, while the incidence rates of sensory disturbances and other complications were low and the donor site aesthetic outcomes were favourable for both graft types. In conclusion, harvesting bone grafts from the calvarium or anterior iliac crest results in similar patient satisfaction, but there may be advantages to calvarial bone grafts in terms of postoperative pain and disturbances in daily living if harvested using an adjusted technique.

Summary: This study assessed mineralization and trabecular microarchitecture in atrophic edentulous mandibles using microcomputed tomography. Results showed lower bone volume fraction and trabecular number in molar regions, and higher trabecular separation, degree of anisotropy, and cortical BMD. Mandibular height was negatively correlated with trabecular number and connectivity density in premolar regions.

Summary: The study compared anterior iliac crest bone and calvarial bone grafts in reconstructing atrophied maxillae, finding that both types were well incorporated after 4 months with a slight advantage in mineral density for calvarial bone grafts.

Summary: This study describes a fully digital workflow for generating a virtual patient for computer-aided implant surgery on completely edentulous patients. By temporarily relining existing dentures with radiopaque dental silicone material, stability is increased and cone beam computed tomography images can be superimposed with intraoral scans to create a virtual patient. This technique has the potential to reduce laboratory work steps, clinical chairside time, and treatment costs.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of using bone-block substitute materials with or without recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) on new bone formation. The results showed that rhBMP-2 enhanced new bone formation in all experimental groups, with DBBM blocks resulting in greater new bone area compared to synthetic blocks at 2 weeks. However, there was no significant difference in new bone formation between DBBM and synthetic blocks with rhBMP-2 at 12 weeks.

Summary: This study evaluated and measured the occurrence of jaw and palate asymmetry in edentulous elderly individuals using 3D-printed stereolithographic models. The results showed a right-sided asymmetry in both the test and control groups. The study emphasized the importance of adequate maxillary height and symmetrical jaw bones for proper dental prosthesis adhesion and implant placement.

Summary: This study evaluated the application effectiveness of short implants in Japanese patients through observations of 16 patients. The results showed significant bone formation around the implants in the short term and long term, and improved patient satisfaction. This indicates that the use of short implants is an effective treatment option when bone levels are insufficient.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of two implant drilling protocols on the cortical bone around immediately loaded implants. The results showed that undersized preparation led to better bone-to-implant contact, and immediate loading did not interfere with osseointegration but triggered intense new bone formation.
