Summary: In this study, multi-element compound-specific stable isotope analysis was used to evaluate the α-HCH and γ-HCH transformations catalyzed by LinA1 and LinA2 enzymes. The results showed slight differences in the isotopic fractionation patterns of different enantiomers, but both enzymes exhibited similar reaction mechanisms during γ-HCH transformation.

Summary: This study evaluated the nutritional composition, digestibility, and contribution of seven insect meals on European perch. The results showed that there were variations in nutritional composition and digestibility among insect species. The field cricket contributed significantly to perch muscle development, while the yellow mealworm and common housefly had higher protein content. Insect meals also proved to be excellent sources of trace minerals. Stable isotopes and mixing models provided insights into the role of ingredients in muscle accretion and nutrient requirements satisfaction.

Summary: In this study, we examined a cohort of male cystic fibrosis (CF) patients who were either pancreatic-sufficient (PS-CF) or pancreatic-insufficient (PI-CF). The majority of patients were diagnosed with azoospermia, while a small percentage had other spermological diagnoses. Most azoospermic patients had low seminal pH and moderate leukocytospermia. Partial meiotic arrest and immature chromatin were observed in some nonazoospermic patients.

Summary: The introduction of highly effective modulator therapy has led to more heterogeneous phenotypes of cystic fibrosis (CF) as a nutritional illness, despite the genetic mutations predicting a worse prognosis. This may become more evident as pediatric CF patients transition into adulthood with the approval of highly effective modulator therapies for young children. This review outlines the current research and knowledge on the impact of highly effective modulator therapy on the nutritional health of people with CF.

Summary: Food insecurity, particularly in food deserts, is associated with lower body mass index/weight-for-length in pediatric CF patients. Interventions to increase access to healthy and affordable food are essential to improve CF outcomes in these populations. Providers should routinely screen for food insecurity and proximity to food deserts in CF patients.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the nutritional status between deltaF508 CFTR heterozygous and homozygous paediatric patients with cystic fibrosis. The results showed no significant differences in serum vitamins or erythrocyte membrane fatty acid profiles between the two patient groups, and there were also no significant differences in height, weight, and BMI percentiles. Patients with cystic fibrosis, whether heterozygous or homozygous, had similar nutritional statuses.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of eating disorders, including avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), in adolescents and young adults with cystic fibrosis (CF). The results showed a clinically significant number of participants screened positive for eating disorders. The eating and weight scales of the CF questionnaire were associated with the scores on these surveys. Further research is needed to understand the optimal way to screen and treat eating disorders in individuals with CF.

Summary: Using a multicatheterized pig model, the study identified the portal-drained viscera as the main releasing compartment of short-chain fatty acids acetate, propionate, butyrate, isovalerate, and valerate in both fasting and postprandial states. Low hepatic acetate metabolism resulted in high splanchnic release, while other SCFAs were extensively cleared. Muscle and kidneys were found to be the main peripheral SCFA metabolizing organs in both fasting and postprandial states.

Summary: This narrative review discusses the impact of dietary protein intake on muscle-related attributes of older adults. Insufficient protein intake exacerbates age-related reductions in muscle size, quality, and function. Adequate protein intake promotes muscle size and function, with observational studies suggesting higher protein intake may enhance muscle strength and function. Higher protein intake benefits lean body mass changes under stress conditions. Specialized protein supplements can help attenuate muscle loss in older adults with medical conditions or acute illness. Animal protein sources are preferred for sarcopenia-related parameters. The quantity, quality, and patterning of dietary protein intake are important for supporting muscle size and function in older adults.

Summary: Publishing a scientific paper is a challenging process that depends on the quality of study design, research questions, clear primary endpoints, and data from a large population. Before submission, it is important to meet ethical requirements, register in public databases, and declare any conflicts of interest. The structure of the manuscript includes sections for introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and an abstract that summarizes all aspects concisely. The publication process involves editors, reviewers, and publishers, with the initial impression being crucial for review. Thoughtful responses to reviewers' feedback are necessary for revisions. The goal is acceptance and publication of the paper.
