Summary: This study used three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) to investigate the effect of apical cortical bone anchorage on the stress distribution, strain distribution, and micromotion of subcrestally placed dental implants. The results showed that providing apical cortical anchorage reduced stress and strain in the trabecular bone and reduced micromotion at the implant-bone interface.

Summary: The aim of this study was to simulate the biomechanical behavior of customized scaffolds fixed by a dental implant on a partially edentulous jaw using the finite element method. The results showed that the customized scaffolds allowed for the recovery of jaw dimensions and reduced stress and strain values in the peri-implant cortical bone. The study found that the diameter of the hole and the porosity of the scaffold did not significantly influence the maximum stress and strain values in the peri-implant bone.

Summary: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of unilaterally more posterior placement of implants according to the all-on-four concept on stress distribution on bone, implants, and other prosthetic components using finite element analysis. The findings suggest that posteriorly placed implants can prevent bone resorption caused by high stress around the crestal bone, but may increase stress on the implants and prosthetic parts.

Summary: The study reported a case of dental implant failure with significant bone loss and described the use of reconstructive surgical techniques for treatment. A 58-year-old man with a history of implant surgery and mandibular implant failure was presented. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and intraoral scans were used to collect data, which were exported into Exoplan software to obtain a standard tessellation file. A customized mandible mesh design was created using DentalCAD 3.0 Galway software. The method involved bone reconstruction and the application of a custom titanium mesh based on guided bone regeneration, using a bone mix obtained from a combination of xenograft, allograft, and autograft. Titanium meshes were fixed to the bone with self-drilling screws and covered with a resorbable membrane. An impression was recorded immediately after surgery, and the patient received a milled polymethyl methacrylate interim denture the next day. According to the case study, the custom-made implant can be considered a temporary solution, allowing for guided bone regeneration to take place.

Summary: This study evaluated the stress distribution in mandibular implant-supported prosthesis with an internal connection morse taper interface. The results showed that stress values were evenly distributed to the pen-implant bone and implants in all tested conditions. The increase in applied load did not result in a proportional increase in stress values. Four and five implants had similar mechanical demands and five implants did not provide additional benefits. The stress values of the commercial pure titanium frameworks approached the yield strength of the metal.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical influences of the implant-abutment connection type and inter-implant distance on the inter-implant bone using three-dimensional finite element analysis. The results showed that a CC implant is advantageous for maintenance of the inter-implant bone, and regardless of the connection type, the stress of the inter-implant bone increases as the inter-implant distance decreases.

Summary: This study used finite element analysis to evaluate the influence of three different dental implant neck geometries under combined compressive/shear loads. The results showed that the neck configuration impacted the strain distribution and magnitude in cortical and trabecular bone tissues, with implants having 10 and 20 degree neck configurations showing lower strain values.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of new resin-based CAD-CAM implant-supported materials on posterior crown restoration stress and strain concentrations. The finite element analysis revealed differences in stress distribution among different resin materials. The Estelite P Block material showed lower tensile and shear stresses compared to other resin-based materials.

Summary: This study validated a mathematical rule based on soft tissues thickness for choosing the correct implant position to prevent marginal bone loss and bacterial colonization. Implants inserted according to this rule in the Biological Oriented Immediate Loading protocol showed 100% survival rate after 5 years with minimal marginal bone loss. The use of Multi Unit Abutment also contributed to a stable biological seal and successful healing of implants.

Summary: The long-term success of dental implants depends on the implant material, design, and bone density. Functionally graded porous materials and designs can address the complications of conventional implants in high-density bone, as they can control stiffness locally to meet biomechanical requirements.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess and compare the stress-strain pattern of zygomatic dental implants supporting different superstructures using 3D finite element analysis (FEA). Stiffer materials such as Zirconia, CoCr and Titanium seemed to be a preferable option to reduce stress in zygomatic implants and prosthetic screws.

Summary: This study investigated the significance of assessing the bone remodeling process in finite element (FE) analysis for evaluating the biomechanical stability of dental implants. The results showed that ignoring the bone remodeling process could lead to conservative results for bone type III and underestimated risks for bone type IV. The bone remodeling process is more affected by the initial bone quality than the implant diameter.
