Summary: Economic and social development, environmental conditions, and disaster propensity are closely related. Therefore, integrating environmental policies into development and disaster management policies is important. Pakistan is highly vulnerable to climate-induced environmental changes and associated disasters. This study reviewed government documents and expert opinions to determine the alignment of national environment and climate change policies, disaster risk reduction policies, and disaster management plans in Pakistan. The study found that there is a need for a regulatory framework to guide the integration of environmental policies in disaster management for China's Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Plan.

Summary: The research analyzed groundwater quality, estimated economic value of water, and mapped threat zones due to poor quality water along River Ravi. Results showed that chemical and bacteriological parameters were within acceptable limits, but some areas exceeded World Health Organization standards for pH and certain chemicals. The study found low willingness to pay for clean drinking water due to lack of awareness among residents, and indicated wheat as the most productive crop for irrigation compared to rice and sugarcane.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the feasibility of wood pellets as a renewable substitute for non-renewable fuels, specifically for heating, by conducting a life cycle assessment in the Hazara division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It found that using lubricating oil during wood pellet production significantly impacted the overall environmental results. Wood pellets made from sawdust of Melia azedarach had the highest heating value, while softwood mixed species had the lowest production cost.

Summary: Pakistan experiences floods in its main rivers, the Indus River System, due to disruptions in weather patterns during monsoon and snowmelt. This study aimed to understand the community perspectives on the socioeconomic impacts of floods in the Central Indus River region of Pakistan. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted in three major biodiversity hotspot areas to evaluate people's knowledge, practices, and attitudes towards floods. The findings highlighted the community's awareness of the causes and impacts of floods, with agricultural land loss, displacement of human populations, and destruction of animal structures being the most common effects. Government departments issued flood warnings and implemented prevention plans, but lack of information resources led to significant losses. NGOs played a crucial role in minimizing the after-effects and aiding in the rehabilitation process. This study will contribute to the improvement of disaster risk reduction policies.
