Summary: Studies have shown that various gene mutations and protein expression levels are associated with the risk of metachronous polyps, indicating the need for further research to determine more accurate risk assessment.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the likelihood of recurrence of gastric hyperplastic polyps (GHPs) following endoscopic resection and the need for long-term follow-up. The study found that the incidence of GHP recurrence increased as the follow-up period increased, especially in patients with large-sized, multiple, or characterized by surface exudates/lobulations.

Summary: This study aimed to establish an endoscopic diagnostic index to distinguish Foveolar-type gastric adenoma (FGA) and Helicobacter pylori-naive gastric hyperplastic polyp (HpN-GHP). It was found that FGAs more frequently exhibited bright-red color, peripheral hyperplasia, papillary/gyrus-like microstructure, visible capillaries, and demarcation line compared to HpN-GHPs. By satisfying four criteria, FGA could be accurately diagnosed with high sensitivity and specificity. The study suggests that the composite diagnostic index contributes to the reproducible, accurate, preoperative differential diagnosis of FGA and HpN-GHP.

Summary: The study found that there is an inverse association between a healthy lifestyle and the risk of colorectal cancer precursors, particularly in the serrated pathway. Individuals with the healthiest lifestyle had a significantly lower risk of adenoma and serrated polyps compared to those with the least healthy lifestyle.

Summary: This study found significant differences in optical evaluation performance between flat and nodular large nonpedunculated colorectal polyps. Flat lesions can be presumed benign and managed accordingly, while nodular lesions are more likely to be missed for submucosal invasive cancer.

Summary: Patients with sporadic hyperplastic polyps (HPs) have an increased risk of developing metachronous colorectal cancer (CRC). Historical HPs were reclassified into sessile serrated adenomas (SSAs) or true HPs based on the 2010 and 2019 WHO criteria. The risk of developing metachronous CRC was significantly higher in patients with SSAs and HPs compared to the control group.

Summary: This study found no significant difference in the risk of metachronous colorectal neoplasia between serrated polyps and conventional adenomas, supporting current surveillance guidelines. Patients with both serrated polyps and high-risk adenomas may have an increased risk, warranting further investigation.

Summary: The prevalence of colorectal cancer has been increasing in Korea, and recent studies have found a correlation between increased blood insulin levels and adenomatous polyps. This study aimed to examine the correlation between insulin levels and colon polyps in individuals without a history of diabetes or colorectal cancer.

Summary: Evidence is scarce regarding the association between general and abdominal obesity and the risk of conventional adenomas and serrated polyps in Asian populations. This study aimed to explore the independent and joint associations of general obesity (measured by BMI) and abdominal obesity (measured by waist circumference or waist-to-hip ratio) with the risk of these polyps. The findings indicate that both general and abdominal obesity are associated with a higher risk of serrated polyps and conventional adenomas, with a stronger association observed for serrated polyps. Moreover, the risk is even higher when both types of obesity are present.

Summary: The liberal use of upper endoscopy has led to an increased detection of gastric and duodenal polyps. Most polyps present characteristic topographical features, as well as endoscopic appearance and size. Evaluation of the surrounding mucosa is essential in assessing the underlying pathology.

Summary: This study found that a growth rate of gallbladder polyps over 3 mm per year on ultrasonography during follow-up should be considered a risk factor for neoplastic polyps. Additionally, polyp size greater than or equal to 10 mm, solitary polyps, and a growth rate exceeding 3 mm per year were identified as important factors for predicting neoplastic polyps.

Summary: In the West, piecemeal endoscopic resection is the primary treatment for large colon polyps, but malignancy after endoscopic resection of LCPs with HGD is uncommon and may be associated with piecemeal resection. En-bloc resection should be the goal for the management of LCPs when possible.

Summary: The study investigated the exposure to two major zoonotic ruminant pathogens in relation to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) risk in a high-risk Asian population. While finding a high seroprevalence of C. burnetii in both ESCC cases and controls, the exposure did not explain the observed association of ruminant contact and ESCC risk.

Summary: This study found that the PAH metabolite concentrations among never tobacco users in rural Kenya were significantly higher than those in other populations, and were associated with indoor cooking using wood fuel. These metabolite concentrations were also related to the presence of advanced esophageal dysplasia. The findings highlight the importance of assessing alternative cooking conditions to reduce PAH exposure in this population.

Summary: In this study, higher serum concentrations of BAs, particularly downstream microbial metabolites of cholic acid, were strongly associated with increased risk of CRC among women. On the other hand, lower serum concentrations of SCFAs were associated with a decreased risk of CRC among women. These associations were most significant among women with proximal colon cancer.
