Summary: The study compared the diagnostic accuracy of two NT-proBNP assays and found that the clinical value of total NT-proBNP for HF diagnosis was similar to the non-glycosylated subfraction of NT-proBNP. The lower percentage of non-glycosylated NT-proBNP to total NT-proBNP in non-HF patients suggests that total NT-proBNP might be more sensitive in individuals without current or prior symptoms of HF.

Summary: Guidelines support the use of BNP and NT-proBNP for risk stratification in heart failure prevention programs. However, a study in a Caucasian population did not find routine simultaneous measurement of both BNP and NT-proBNP to be warranted for predicting HF or LVD.

Summary: The study found that the NT-proBNP/BNP ratio was inversely associated with the future development of heart failure and left ventricular dysfunction risk. However, the study does not support routine simultaneous measurement of BNP and NT-proBNP in heart failure prevention programs among European, Caucasian patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the changes in NT-proBNP concentrations before and after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, and found that creatinine and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure were the significant factors associated with NT-proBNP concentration. Hemodynamic measurements were found to have a stronger association with NT-proBNP concentration post-LVAD compared to extracardiac factors, indicating the usefulness of NT-proBNP as a biomarker for cardiac conditions after LVAD implantation.

Summary: Rapid assessment of biomarker levels in patients is an effective approach in the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure. BNP and NT-proBNP, as biomarkers of HF, have a high negative predictive value and are particularly useful in excluding HF as a cause of non-specific symptoms.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic power of ztog-proBNP for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) throughout childhood in patients with congenital heart diseases (CHD). The results showed that high zlog-proBNP values were strongly associated with adverse events, and ztog-proBNP was the best predictor for MACE, surpassing absolute NT-proBNP values. The study suggests that zlog-proBNP could play a pivotal role in the future management of children with heart diseases.

Summary: Diagnosing heart failure is often difficult due to non-specific symptoms. This document explores the use of NT-proBNP as a biomarker for diagnosing heart failure in different clinical scenarios. Validated cut-points are provided for ruling in or ruling out acute and de novo heart failure. The concept of 'heart stress' is introduced, and a simple acronym FIND-HF is proposed for early diagnosis of heart failure.

Summary: This study found that NT-proBNP plasma concentrations significantly increase in healthy adult patients after non-cardiac surgery, even in the absence of complications. The absolute and relative increase of NT-proBNP concentrations after surgery exceeded baseline values.

Summary: Novel circulating biomarkers may help in understanding AF mechanisms. The study found total NT-proBNP, NT-proBNP, Ang2, and BMP10 were strongly associated with ongoing AF and predictive of recurrent AF and CV hospitalization. The association of total NT-proBNP with AF first recurrence was similar to NT-proBNP, suggesting no influence of glycosylation.

Summary: In this study, NT-proBNP levels were found to be significantly higher in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) compared to non-PAD controls, even after adjusting for various factors. Elevated levels of NT-proBNP were observed in PAD patients regardless of prior history of congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, diabetes, or hypercholesterolemia. Additionally, a negative correlation was found between NT-proBNP levels and the ankle-brachial index in these patients.
