Summary: As climate change continues, managing mosquitoes becomes increasingly challenging. Traditional chemical insecticides have adverse environmental effects and mosquitoes have developed resistance to them. This study explores environmentally-friendly alternatives by identifying certain plant compounds with insecticidal activity and improving their structure to enhance potency as mosquito larvicides.

Summary: Insecticides play a crucial role in preventing the spread of diseases carried by mosquitoes. This study focused on finding alternative insecticides with new modes of action. Three novel series of sulfonamide-incorporating quaternary ammonium iodides were synthesized and tested against Culex pipiens L. The compounds showed good larvicidal activities and biological effects comparable to temephos.

Summary: This study developed eco-friendly botanical larvicides from Cinnamomum burmannii and Syzygium aromaticum extracts. The combinations of these extracts showed synergistic effects and the 25% S.A. : 75% C.B. extract exhibited the highest toxicity against Culex pipiens larvae. However, the extract was found to be toxic to HUVEC cells and more research is needed to assess its toxicity on aquatic animals.

Summary: This study evaluated the larvicidal activity of marine-derived endophytic fungi and their compounds against Culex pipiens mosquitoes. The results showed that one compound displayed strong insecticidal effects, and the extracts also showed inhibitory activity against enzymes in the mosquitoes. This study provides a promising direction for finding natural larvicidal agents against mosquito populations.

Summary: This study investigates the larvicidal efficacy of three methanolic algal extracts, Cystoseira myrica, C. trinodis, and C. tamariscifolia, against Cx. pipiens. The analysis of the algal samples led to the characterization of twelve compounds belonging to phenolics and terpenoids. Probit analysis was used to determine the lethal concentrations (LC50 and LC90). The highest toxicity was found in C. myrica extract, followed by C. trinodis, and the lowest toxicity was observed in C. tamariscifolia. The elevation of GST and reduction of AChE enzymes confirm the larvicidal activity of the extracts.

Summary: Plant extracts have been explored as safe alternatives to chemical pesticides in controlling mosquitoes and preventing vector-borne diseases. The study evaluated the larvicidal activities of four plant extracts against Culex pipiens, with Lantana camara showing the highest mortality rate. The chemical composition of L. camara was analyzed through GC-MS, revealing potential insecticidal compounds, while qRT-PCR demonstrated the impact on AChE and GST genes.

Summary: In this study, spinel cobalt oxide nanorods (Co3O4 NRs) were successfully synthesized and characterized. The Co3O4 NRs exhibited excellent crystallinity and stability. They also showed high larvicidal activity against Culex pipiens larvae, surpassing the effectiveness of the commonly used entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium brunneum.

Summary: This study evaluated the larvicidal potential of extracts from Thuja orientalis leaves and fruits against Culex pipiens larvae, and identified the compounds in the extracts using GC-MS analysis. The results showed that the extracts exhibited concentration-dependent larvicidal effects, with better efficacy observed in the leaf extracts. The leaf extracts were mainly composed of terpenoids and sesquiterpenoids, while the fruit extracts contained mainly fatty acid esters.

Summary: This study evaluated the larvicidal and adulticidal activity of fennel and green tea oils and their nanostructured lipid carriers against Culex pipiens mosquitoes. The nanoformulations showed significant mortality rates and reductions in larval and adult densities. The encapsulated fennel oil demonstrated promising activity as a larvicide and adulticide.

Summary: This study found that sandalwood essential oil nano-emulsion showed strong larvicidal activity against Culex pipiens and Aedes aegypti larvae. Compared to sandalwood essential oil, the nano-emulsion significantly decreased protein content and alkaline phosphatase and b-esterase enzyme activities, while increasing a-esterase and glutathione S-transferase activities in larval body tissues.

Summary: The study aimed to improve the characteristics of metal oxides for mosquito control, synthesizing undoped and Y-doped CuO through a simple chemical route. Structural, composition, and morphological properties were characterized, revealing that CuO was significantly affected by Y3+ support. The CuO/Y nanocomposite showed higher efficiency in larvicidal performance against Culex pipiens compared to pure CuO.
