Summary: This study aimed to identify baseline factors that can predict the recurrence of syncope or presyncope in children with VVS over a 5-year follow-up period and develop a prognostic nomogram model. The results showed that supine mean arterial pressure (MAP-supine) and baseline urine specific gravity (USG) were significantly associated with the risk of syncope or presyncope recurrence (HR: 0.70 and 3.00, respectively; both P < 0.05). The prognostic nomogram model, which incorporated these factors, demonstrated strong discriminative and predictive abilities.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the one-year mortality risk associated with syncope and unexplained fall in older adults with dementia. The results showed that patients with Truly Unexplained Falls had a higher mortality risk compared with syncope and Syncopal Fall. For this new high-risk profile, a comprehensive geriatric assessment is advised to focus on fall risk factors for possible prognosis improvement.

Summary: Peak oxygen consumption during exercise (peak Vo(2)) is a significant prognostic marker for long-term survival after heart transplantation. Each standard deviation increase in post-transplant percent predicted peak Vo(2) (%Vo(2)) is associated with a 32% decrease in mortality. A %Vo(2) below 29%, 64%, and 88% predicted less than 80% survival at 5, 10, and 15 years, respectively.

Summary: The presence of comorbidities in myelofibrosis patients can significantly impact survival outcomes, with conditions such as hypertension, smoking, dyslipidemia, and hepatitis C virus being the most adverse factors associated with reduced overall survival.

Summary: The study found that the use of statins was not consistently associated with any mortality outcome in NHL/CLL patients. For FL patients receiving active treatment, statin use did not increase lymphoma-specific mortality. However, in CLL patients, statin use was associated with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality but not consistently with lymphoma-specific mortality.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors associated with the risk and timing of recurrence after resection of hepatocellular carcinoma based on differences in tumor burden score. The results showed that tumor burden score was independently associated with a higher risk of recurrence. Patients with a high tumor burden score were more likely to experience early recurrence with multiple tumors and at an extrahepatic site. Tumor burden score is an important tool in assessing the risk, timing, and pattern of recurrence after resection of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Summary: By analyzing the 5-year relative survival rates of 23 solid cancers in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden over a 50-year period (1970-2019), we found that certain cancers showed a gradual improvement in survival rates, such as melanoma and breast, endometrial, and thyroid cancers. Additionally, oral, oropharyngeal, testicular, and prostate cancers also exhibited significant increases in survival rates. However, lung, esophageal, liver, and other cancers showed only minimal improvement.

Summary: Prognostic tests based on limited gene expression profiles are only approved for specific clinical features. Deep learning algorithms can potentially stratify patients based on full transcriptome data, but the high number of variables in omics datasets hinders the development of robust classifiers. In this study, a classifier based on a data augmentation pipeline was proposed, which outperformed established biomarkers in stratifying breast cancer patients. Importantly, the classifier performed well across independent and merged transcriptome datasets, improving overall patient stratification.

Summary: This study aimed to establish tumor-size-stratified nomograms for predicting the overall survival of patients with uterine sarcoma. The study found that the significant prognostic factors differed between the two tumor size groups. The nomograms constructed and validated in this study could be useful for predicting the probability of survival for patients with uterine sarcoma.
