Summary: A systematic review found that there is a small risk of Bell's palsy after COVID-19 vaccination, with a rate of 25.3 per million people. The majority of cases occurred after the first dose, particularly with Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V vaccines. Patients treated with corticosteroids, IVIG, and anti-viral drugs showed significant improvement. Overall, the benefits of vaccination outweigh the potential risks.

Summary: This review aimed to determine the incidence of Bell's Palsy after Covid-19 vaccination and compare it with the general population. Seven studies were included, involving a total of 20,234,931 vaccinated patients. The results showed that the incidence of Bell's Palsy after vaccination was comparable to the general unvaccinated population.

Summary: This network meta-analysis suggests that the combination of corticosteroids and antivirals is the most effective treatment for Bell's palsy, resulting in good recovery outcomes and reducing synkinesis rates. However, there is some uncertainty in the certainty of evidence, indicating a need for further research to validate these findings.

Summary: Currently, the optimal treatment for Bell's palsy is controversial, with corticosteroids and antiviral medication usually recommended in the early stage. However, their use is often delayed due to their unclear effects on pregnant women and fetuses. Acupuncture, as a safe and effective complementary therapy, can alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life for Bell's palsy patients. This case report presents a 27-year-old pregnant woman with Bell's palsy who achieved complete recovery after five courses of acupuncture treatment.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to describe the etiology and clinical course of pediatric acute-onset unilateral peripheral facial palsy and to differentiate between Bell's palsy and Lyme-related facial palsy. The results showed that Bell's palsy and Lyme-related facial palsy were common causes of pediatric facial palsy in the Lyme-endemic region. Systemic prodrome and month of onset may help distinguish between the two conditions and guide antibiotic use. Early corticosteroid use did not affect facial strength recovery.

Summary: This study investigates the use of retroauricular injection to treat Bell's Palsy, finding that it can replace oral steroid hormone administration and reduce adverse reactions. The results show no significant differences in the main outcome indicators between the two groups after 30 days of treatment. However, the experimental group had a shorter duration of postauricular pain and a lower rate of adverse reactions.

Summary: This retrospective study systematically screened 104 patients with Bell's palsy for acute HEV infection, but found no association between acute HEV infection and Bell's palsy. However, a high prevalence of anti-HEV IgG in Bell's palsy patients was observed, which increased with age.

Summary: This systematic review investigates the neural mechanisms underlying acupuncture treatment for peripheral facial nerve palsy (PFNP) using neuroimaging methods. The study aims to explore the specific mechanisms of acupuncture treatment for PFNP. The methods include searching relevant databases and evaluating the effects of acupuncture on brain activity and clinical improvement in PFNP patients. The results will help us better understand the neural mechanisms of acupuncture treatment for PFNP.

Summary: This study aims to analyze the hotspots of acupuncture for Bell's palsy. The findings from bibliometric analysis reveal that China is the most prolific country, Li Ying is the most prolific author, and research collaboration among scholars is poor. The research hotspots mainly focus on traditional Chinese medicine philosophy, the role of acupuncture in the prognosis of facial palsy, mechanism of acupuncture to improve facial nerve function, and the use of electroacupuncture.

Summary: The systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of facial exercise therapy for facial palsy patients and provide evidence for telerehabilitation. The analysis of multiple studies showed that facial exercise therapy had positive impacts on the recovery of facial palsy patients, especially in the early stages. Further standardization of study design and evaluation of cost-effectiveness are recommended.

Summary: Currently, there is very low-certainty evidence from RCTs or quasi-RCTs on the surgery for early management of Bell's palsy, which is insufficient to determine whether surgical intervention is beneficial or harmful. Further research into the role of surgical intervention is unlikely to be performed, as spontaneous or medically supported recovery occurs in most cases.

Summary: This report describes three cases of delayed union successfully treated with the herbal decoction Jeopgol-tang. The patients had different types of bone fractures and were diagnosed with delayed union based on imaging and fracture duration. After treatment with Jeopgol-tang, radiographic imaging showed bony bridging and the patients reported pain reduction. These findings suggest that Jeopgol-tang may be a complementary and integrative medicine treatment option for delayed unions.

Summary: This study provides an overview of the implementation of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) services and the introduction of evidence-based practice in TCIM. Experiences in China and the United States show different policy priorities at different stages of TCIM implementation. Multi-level interventions can facilitate the integration of TCIM services into conventional healthcare systems.

Summary: This paper presents the ACURATE checklist, which is an extension of CONSORT and to be used with STRICTA when both real and sham acupuncture needles are used. The checklist provides a clear depiction of sham needling procedures to enhance replicability and enable a precise appraisal. Researchers are encouraged to use ACURATE in trials and reviews involving sham acupuncture to assist reporting of sham acupuncture procedures.

Summary: This study aims to improve the reporting quality of sham acupuncture in clinical trials to accurately evaluate the adequacy of the procedure. A three-stage online Delphi survey was conducted to select the final checklist, which consists of 23 items in six categories. This checklist, called ACURATE, is an extension of CONSORT and should be used in conjunction with STRICTA to enhance replicability and enable a precise appraisal of sham needling procedures.

Summary: This review examined the effects of acupuncture on trigeminal neuralgia and found that compared to carbamazepine, acupuncture can improve pain scores, response rates, frequency of pain attacks, and adverse effects in patients with trigeminal neuralgia. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings as the quality of evidence is low.

Summary: This systematic review on case reports of acupuncture-related adverse events found that while the number of publications in this field has increased, the information provided is often insufficient. Many case reports lack the necessary details to assess causality and do not adhere to reporting guidelines. This highlights the importance of developing guidelines for future case reports to improve reporting quality.

Summary: This review evaluates the effectiveness of acupuncture (AT) in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The meta-analysis of 14 studies suggests that AT, as an add-on or standalone treatment, can improve behavior problems, learning problems, hyperactivity-impulsivity, and hyperactivity symptoms in ADHD patients. However, more studies with proper methodology are needed to validate the efficacy of AT interventions.
