Summary: This study collected existing social and natural data, investigated the natural conditions of tidal flats in the Bohai Rim, and developed a multi-index evaluation system to analyze the carrying capacity and suitability of tidal flats. The results show that the carrying capacity of tidal flats in the Bohai Rim slightly increased due to the improvement in economic and ecological conditions, but some land remains temporarily unsuitable for development due to its high ecological importance.

Summary: Protection from waves and ensuring water circulation are important for harbor design. This study investigates the tidal-induced circulation pattern within El-Burullus fishing harbor using a coastal hydrodynamic modeling system and particle tracking model. The results show the impact of tidal actions on water circulation and residence time in the harbor.

Summary: Seasonal-varying internal tidal dynamics play a critical role in deep-water renewal in tropical shallow-silled fjords, with weaker stratification in the easterly monsoonal season causing more frequent tidal upwelling events compared to the transitional monsoonal season. The influx of upwelled water across the sill is controlled by the tidal excursion in the easterly monsoonal season and by the density difference in the transitional monsoonal season. A series of deep-water renewal events in a spring-neap sequence in the easterly monsoonal season supplies a larger total inflow volume compared to the transitional monsoonal season.

Summary: Through a modified Delphi exercise, we identified the factors influencing production levels in marine finfish aquaculture under different scenarios with the help of industry experts. This led to the development of a simple formula that takes into account the physical, ecological, social, and economic conditions of the activity on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. Using this formula, we estimated the carrying capacity for floating cages on the coast to be 117,162 tonnes - approximately 1.5 times the current granted production level. Therefore, we concluded that the production level of floating nurseries on the Spanish Mediterranean coast could potentially be increased by up to 47.5% pending validation of the model.

Summary: Estimating the carrying capacity is crucial for integrated environmental management, policy making, and decision making. This study uses a Bayesian/CHAID model to analyze the profile information of environmental quality, geomorphology, and human activities, with the trophic state as an indicator, to estimate the carrying capacity of aquaculture.

Summary: The level set method and shape sensitivity analysis were utilized to optimize surface texture shapes under cavitating hydrodynamic lubrication conditions, with the application of velocity regularization and re-initial equations to ensure a smooth evolution process. The optimal surface texture shapes were found to be chevron-type in both the textured surface and parallel thrust bearing cases.

Summary: The utilization and protection of tidal flat play a crucial role in the sustainable development of coastal areas. This study proposes an evaluation index system model for the carrying capacity of tidal flat resources in bays around the Bohai Sea. Historical changes and future trends show a decline in carrying capacity from 2003 to 2013, slowing from 2013 to 2018, and expected to increase slightly from 2018 to 2028. Among the three areas analyzed, Laizhou Bay has a better carrying capacity compared to Liaodong Bay and Bohai Bay.

Summary: The coastal zone in China, which combines marine and land ecosystems, is crucial for resource utilization. However, compared to Europe and North America, China has a fragmented understanding of coastal zone resources. This study developed an assessment framework and tested it in Zhuanghe City, revealing critical issues in coastal resources and environmental carrying capacity. The results provide insights for improving coastal management practices and addressing the conflict between spatial development and protection in coastal areas.

Summary: The study examined the water renewal time, self-purification capacity, and transport of particulate matter in a harbor basin in a coastal zone. Results showed that partial closing of the harbor's entrance with a breakwater seems to be the most acceptable technical solution based on numerical and experimental data.

Summary: The present study evaluated the carrying capacity of a mariculture zone in the Aegean Sea. The results showed that the estimated carrying capacity of the zone is 252,852 tons, which is 18 times the current production level. These findings provide important support for decision-makers in the management of intensive cage aquaculture operations in the Mediterranean region.

Summary: This study aims to explore the relationship between the theoretical carrying capacity of grasslands and the forage-livestock balance in the Qilian Mountains. It was found that precipitation was the main factor contributing to the increase in the theoretical carrying capacity. Future grassland management should prioritize areas with continuously increasing overloading.

Summary: Water resources are crucial for supporting regional economic development, and evaluating the carrying capacity of these resources is significant for sustainable development. Zhangjiakou City, as China's first capital water conservation functional area, plays a vital role in safeguarding the capital's water resources and ecological environment. The water resource carrying capacity of Chicheng County in Zhangjiakou City for both the current year (2018) and the plan year (2025) is evaluated using various methods, with the main factors affecting the carrying capacity also analyzed. The results showed that there is potential for further improvement in the water resource carrying capacity of Chicheng County, but issues such as river water pollution and weak pollution monitoring and supervision need urgent attention.

Summary: Membrane chromatography is considered a potential solution for downstream processing in protein purification. Despite limited commercial adoption in large-scale production, significant progress has been made. However, robust evaluation of its performance is still needed, and the disconnection between academic and commercial efforts should be addressed.

Summary: This study investigated animal movement and behavior around tidal stream turbine structures using multibeam echosounder data. The majority of tracked animals were observed swimming against the flow, with many showing capability of manoeuvring in tidal stream flow speeds. The data also highlighted the benefits of using multibeam echosounders to measure animal movement accurately.
