Summary: This work provides an overview of environmental studies conducted in areas affected by dumpsites and nonsanitary landfills in Brazil, identifying main contaminants and assessing their environmental impact for guidance on intervention measures. The results reveal that Brazilian dumpsites are causing negative impacts on surrounding soils and water resources, posing ecological and public health risks that persist even after closure. Additionally, the study suggests the need for strict enforcement methods and monitoring plans to address this significant environmental problem in Brazil.

Summary: Globally, school-going children are not able to achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day. A study in Kampala, Uganda found that only 22% of primary schools in the Makindye Division provided sufficient time for physical activity. Factors associated with sufficient physical activity include scheduled physical education lessons after break or lunch, provision of facilities such as space for physical activity, and offering sports like volleyball and athletics.

Summary: Urban waste disposal is a major challenge due to population growth and urbanization. This study developed a spatial suitability map using multi-criteria decision-making and GIS to identify potential landfill sites in the Safita area. The results provide reliable outputs for suggesting environmentally and socioeconomically sustainable landfill sites in the post-war phase.

Summary: This research presents the development and analysis of a database of energy use in Australian public primary schools, revealing the relationship between school energy performance and factors such as enrolments, gross floor area, climate zone, and remoteness. The study also found that schools with solar PV arrays had lower energy consumption.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between the number of primary schools, total fertility rates, and net migration rates in mainland municipalities in Portugal from 1999 to 2016. While there is a mutual influence between these variables, the impact of school closures on the growth outlook of a municipality is limited. The main focus of policy decisions regarding the provision of primary schools should be on enhancing the quality of life for local communities rather than countering depopulation.

Summary: Research reports high levels of mental health problems among young people in the UK, with schools offering various support services that are often not robustly evaluated. Results from a study in two regions of Northern England show a non-significant correlation between school provision and students' mental health scores, highlighting a need for improved evaluation and documentation of school-based mental health services.

Summary: The social network of stakeholders involved in providing potable water and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) in high schools in Costa Rica is fragmented, with weak roles in preventing the availability of SSBs. School canteen owners have the ultimate decision-making power on available beverages, leading to students choosing drinks that increase the risk of overweight/obesity. It is urgently necessary to improve stakeholder interactions to enhance their roles in beverage provision.

Summary: This study explores the views and experiences of EPs and teachers regarding educational psychological services in primary schools in Category A districts in the Gaeltacht. Key findings indicate general satisfaction with new models of special education support and consultation, alongside a positive attitude towards Irish-medium education. However, challenges such as inadequate translation services and lack of proficient assessors in Irish impact the quality of services. Recommendations include improving translation services, assessment in Irish, professional training for psychologists, and recruitment of competent Irish-speaking professionals.

Summary: This paper empirically investigates the efficiency of Italian regions in providing public primary and secondary education for the period 2011-18 using stochastic frontier analysis. It identifies strong interregional differences, particularly a clear North-South geographical pattern. Context variables such as per capita GDP, poverty, institutional quality, and adult education are shown to be highly relevant in shaping regional efficiency. When interregional disparities in socio-economic factors are considered, no residual geographical pattern in regional efficiency emerges.

Summary: This study examines discrimination in public school provision in rural India and its impact on educational outcomes of social groups. It reveals that villages with a higher proportion of marginalised castes have a lower probability of having public schools, especially at the secondary level where discrimination has increased. The research demonstrates a strong association between public schools and educational outcomes, with caste-based provisioning of public schools partially explaining disparities in educational outcomes across social groups.
