Summary: The chlorination of 1,2-diphosphinobenzene with PCl5 was successful in yielding 1,2-bis(dichlorophosphino)benzene with a high yield of 93%, despite the presence of multiple P-H functions. This method was also applied to other phosphines, leading to the first synthesis and complete characterization of 1,2,4-tris(dichlorophosphino)benzene (89% yield) and 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(dichlorophosphino)benzene (91% yield), which are valuable precursors for various applications. The study also demonstrated the use of chlorophosphanes in base-induced ring closure reactions with primary amines.

Summary: A general and efficient procedure for the iodination of isoquinolin-1(2H)-ones using N-iodosuccinimide under the catalysis of p-toluenesulfonic acid at room temperature is presented. This method offers an alternative approach for the formation of C-I bonds, resulting in the synthesis of various 4-iodoisoquinolin-1(2H)-ones in moderate to good yields. The procedure demonstrates a wide substrate scope and excellent tolerance towards functional groups.

Summary: This study examines the influence of ipso substitution on the formation of trihalomethanes (THMs) during water chlorination. It confirms the conversion of C-Br bonds into C-Cl bonds for parabens and salicylates, resulting in the presence of brominated and nonhalogenated precursors, which generate polybrominated THMs. The THM molar yield and bromine incorporation were observed to be higher for brominated precursors compared to nonhalogenated precursors. The impact of ipso substitution on THM formation varies with the structure of the organic precursor.

Summary: This review summarizes and critically analyzes the data on the mechanochemical synthesis of halogen-containing organic compounds published mainly over the past 10 years. The established views about the methods of activation of mechanochemical halogenation reactions are discussed. The review considers the mechanochemical fluorination, chlorination, bromination, and iodination reactions of organic compounds. Special attention is given to reaction mechanisms, selectivity problems, and the consideration of mechanochemical approach as a promising trend of green chemistry.

Summary: In this study, chlorine doped hydroxyapatite with varying degrees of ion replacement was successfully synthesized using a ball milling technique. The resulting powders were characterized and confirmed to have apatite as the main phase, with chlorine ions incorporated into the lattice. The crystallinity of the powders declined, but hardness test results indicated the potential of these powders as bone implant materials.

Summary: The crosslink density of rubber compounds has significant effects on the properties of the final product. Four different experimental techniques were used to determine the crosslink density of silica-filled styrene butadiene rubber composites. The results from the Mooney-Rivlin and TSSR measurements showed the best correlation with the mechanical properties and were the least affected by fillers and time-consuming.

Summary: In the past few years, there has been a growing interest and demand in the synthetic community for new methodologies to access important halogenated compounds. Recent research has focused on documenting the applications of iodine monochloride (ICI) in synthetic organic transformations, including halogenation reactions, cyclizations, metathesis reactions, and oxidation processes. Discussions have also been made on the versatile nature and interesting properties of ICI, as well as comparisons with other halogenating reagents in terms of advantages, disadvantages, and mechanistic insights.

Summary: The study discovered a synthetic method for 1-(2,2-dimethylpropyl)-cyclopropene(1-DCP) as a cyclopropene derivative to inhibit ethylene action in fruit ripening and senescence. The synthesized 1-DCP effectively delayed flesh softening and peel degreening in persimmon and banana fruits, which are representative phenomena of fruit ripening and senescence induced by ethylene. This research is of great importance for maintaining the quality of agricultural products.

Summary: This study presents an original method for the preparation of N-alkyl and N-aryl pyrazoles using primary aliphatic or aromatic amines as a limiting reagent. The protocol avoids the use of inorganic reagents, requires short reaction time, mild conditions, and utilizes commercially available starting reagents. Pyrazoles with a variety of N-substituents were successfully obtained using this method for both aliphatic and aromatic amines.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of two experimental hybrid-glass-based infiltrants in arresting artificial white spot lesions (WSLs) in vitro and compared them with a resin-based infiltrant Icon. The results showed that the experimental hybrid-glass-based material without HAp-nanoparticles could completely arrest the progression of WSLs, while its version with HAp-nanoparticles and the resin-based infiltrant Icon could not.

Summary: This study reports a method of palladium-catalyzed C-H arylation assisted with a 3,4,4-trimethylpyrazol-5-on directing group, which selectively provides mono- and di-ortho-arylated products. The steric hindrance between the directing group and the already introduced aryl substituent enables control of mono- vs. diarylation selectivity by the reaction temperature. A series of monosubstituted and disubstituted derivatives were obtained in good yields. In addition, a one-pot procedure for unsymmetrical double-arylation to give corresponding products was developed, and the synthesis and X-ray study of intermediate palladium metallacycles were conducted. The decarboxylative cleavage of the pyrazolone directing group under mild conditions gave synthetically useful hydrazones. Overall, this solution provides an alternative synthetic pathway for ortho arylated derivatives of arylhydrazines.

Summary: Shape-persistent macrocycles have attracted researchers for their potential in synthesis and materials chemistry. They are relatively rigid and can spontaneously aggregate into supramolecular assemblies. The dependence of steric hindrance on oxygen atoms in 2,6-bis-acetylenephenolates on the structure of macrocycles obtained from these precursors has been studied. Crystal structures of arylene butadiynylene species have been analyzed, showing that various macrocycles can form regardless of steric hindrance.

Summary: A solvent-free coupling reaction of azulenes with 1-haloalkynes and 1-halopolyynes has been developed, which only requires simple grinding of substrates with basic Al2O3 without solvents or precious metal catalysts. The reaction allows for the direct introduction of a linear carbon chain up to (C C)(4), providing easy access to azulene end-capped sp-hybridised carbon molecular wires. Further reactivity testing shows that the resulting azulenes can be transformed into thiophenes through certain derivatives.
