Summary: This study investigates the descriptors correlated with catalytic activity through the synthesis and characterization of two catalysts. The results show that the introduction of an ethoxy group can enhance the catalytic activity in chemically driven and photocatalytic water oxidation, and it is related to the configuration of the Ru-oxo unit.

Summary: The catalytic activities of di- and tetranuclear Ru(bda) macrocycles in homogeneous water oxidation depend on their size, with the largest tetranuclear catalyst showing the highest efficiency. Turnover frequencies per Ru unit have increased from di- to tetranuclear macrocycles, indicating a clear structure-activity relationship for this novel class of macrocyclic water oxidation catalysts.

Summary: Catalytic approaches to late-stage creation of new C-O bonds, especially via oxygenation of particular C-H groups in complex organic molecules, provide challenging tools for the synthesis of biologically active compounds and candidate drugs. The key role of the oxygen-transferring high-valent iron-oxygen species in selective oxygenation is now well established. In this Personal Account, recent data on the reactivity of bioinspired formally oxoiron(V) catalytically active sites toward organic substrates having C=C and C(sp(3))-H groups are analyzed, with a focus on the factors governing the oxidation chemo- and stereoselectivity.

Summary: This study reports a photochemical approach using flavin catalysts to oxidize silyl enol ethers to α,β-unsaturated ketones. The catalysts exhibit good stability throughout the reaction and can be successfully applied in subsequent aerobic epoxidation reactions. The sequential catalytic activity of flavin enables rapid diversification of substrates.

Summary: Enzymes are essential for biological transformations and have attracted great attention for their structures and functions. Biomimetic chemistry has rapidly developed in response to the demand for bioactive molecules and efficient synthesis. Biomimetic asymmetric catalysis, inspired by enzymes, has been recognized as one of the most promising strategies for producing valuable chiral compounds. This review summarizes the evolution of biomimetic asymmetric catalysis in terms of biomimetic design, catalyst development, and catalytic transformations, providing insights into bridging the gap between bio-catalysis and chemical synthesis.

Summary: Various triaminocyclopentadienyl ruthenium complexes were synthesized from Ru-3(CO)(12) and tested for their ability to catalyze cascade conversions of propargyl alcohols. The substrate scope of catalytic cycloadditions was extended to terpenoid-derived propargyl alcohols containing an internal alkyne moiety, resulting in a wide range of cyclic terpenoid and phloroglucinol adducts obtained by complementary application of both types of catalysts.

Summary: A new base-and halogen-free homogeneous oxidation system was developed in this study, aiming to selectively oxidize allyl, furyl, aryl, and heteroaryl primary alcohols. The system uses CuCl2/TMEDA/TEMPO with mild reaction conditions to produce aldehydes in high yields, and TMEDA as a ligand significantly affects the redox potential in the system.

Summary: This study reports a catalyst that maintains high electrocatalytic turnover frequency at very low pH values, with high current densities and excellent durability. Preliminary computational studies suggest that the sulfonate group in the active site acts as a proton relay even in strong acid.

Summary: The silver-assisted gold-catalyzed activation of alkynyl glycosyl carbonate donors is a versatile approach for the synthesis of various types of N-glycosides, including purine and pyrimidine nucleosides, asparagine glycosides, and quinolin-2-one N-glycosides. This method enables the synthesis of nucleosides that are difficult to obtain through other means. Additionally, it can be used to easily synthesize 2'-modified nucleosides and dipeptide disaccharide units of chloroviruses.

Summary: An efficient protocol for the synthesis of 2-aryl benzoxazoles via visible light-initiation has been developed. The reaction conditions of this method are mild, and only Eosin Y is needed as photocatalyst without any other metal catalyst. The purification of the desired product is easier because only CO2 is produced as the byproduct. Under the optimal reaction conditions, benzoxazole with different substituents and alpha-keto acids show very good reactivity and a series of arylbenzoxazoles can be synthesized.
