Summary: This article reviews the recent advances in the synthesis and applications of ferrocene-fused nitrogen heterocycles. The transfer of powerful transition-metal-catalyzed methodologies for C-H bond functionalization of benzene derivatives to ferrocene has played a significant role in this field.

Summary: New tunable aryl alkyl ionic liquids (TAAILs) based on imidazolium containing weakly coordinating anion [Ga(C2F5)(4)](-) were investigated for their viscosity, conductivity, and electrochemical stability. The gallate-TAAILs showed stability even at high electrochemical potentials and are considered promising candidates for electrolytes in electrochemical applications. More details can be found in the communication by B. Hoge, T. Strassner, et al. (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202102097).

Summary: This study demonstrates a method to transform amorphous nanobowls into crystalline ellipsoids through UV-induced trans-cis isomerization. The approach utilizes an azobenzene-containing amphiphilic homopolymer as a building block and introduces hydrogen bonding and pi-pi interactions to promote the formation of nanobowls. Upon UV irradiation, the nanobowls disassemble and reassemble into crystalline ellipsoids. It is found that a high incubation temperature is critical for the isomerization and rearrangement of polymer chains.

Summary: Ultraviolet ozone flushing (UVO) is used to oxidize the NiOx hole-transport layer, activating the Ni3+ at the top of the NiOx film and enhancing its electrical properties and hole extraction ability. Sequential deposition of perovskites leads to the formation of residual PbI2 at the bottom interface, preventing direct contact between the NiOx film and the perovskite layer and avoiding NiOx-related chemical reactions.

Summary: The optical fluorescent pH sensors based on positively charged silica microparticles containing anionic pyranine molecules were developed using a modified Stober method, ensuring overly pH-sensitive nature of pyranine and long-term stability through silica shell coating. These cytocompatible ratiometric pH sensors can be individually observed and are suitable for pH sensing and tracking applications.

Summary: The double-shelled hollow PMo12-SiO2@N-C anode material achieves excellent lithium storage, with the N-C outer shell improving electronic conductivity and promoting dispersion of PMo12 clusters, and the SiO2 inner shell efficiently avoiding loss of active components. The hollow structure helps buffer volume expansion and accelerate Li+ diffusion during lithiation/delithiation.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of in-fjord substituted expanded helicenes and estimates their inversion barriers through state-of-the-art quantum calculations. The energetic profile of the inversions is found to be significantly influenced by the interplay of steric and attractive London dispersion interactions. Summary: Photopyroelectric calorimetry was used to study the effects of different concentrations of photo-induced cis isomeric molecules on the phase transition characteristics of p,p'-diheptylazobenzene (7AB) samples. The results showed that increasing the concentration of cis isomers led to an increase in the fraction of material undergoing phase transitions and an increase in the cis-trans conversion rate.
