Summary: The contribution of thermodynamics of mixing to glass transition in polymer-modified asphalt binders was studied quantitatively using a differential scanning calorimeter with an epoxy system. The miscibility of the binders was determined by measuring the heat capacity (Cp) and glass transition temperature (Tg) based on entropic changes. The enthalpy of mixing was also examined to ensure complete crosslinking of the binders. The results showed that the positive deviations of Tg from the ideal mixing rule indicated the presence of repulsive forces between the asphalt and epoxy components.

Summary: Differential scanning calorimetry is used to measure the thermodynamic properties of organogels, revealing broad endothermic peaks and their corresponding temperatures. The phase diagram explains why the molar melting enthalpies of low concentration samples are lower than expected, while the inflection points of thermograms provide a more accurate measurement of the gel melting temperature.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of extended holding time at 1290 degrees C and 1300 degrees C on the temperatures of gamma' phase dissolving and gamma/gamma'eutectic phase-melting in a second-generation Ni-based SX superalloy. Results showed that these temperatures increased after 2 hours of holding time but the increase was not significant with further holding time. Additionally, the volume fraction of gamma/gamma' eutectic decreased with extended holding at 1300 degrees C, while the fraction increased after holding at 1290 degrees C for 8 hours.

Summary: The transition metal monopnictide family of Weyl semimetals has been found to possess strong second-order optical nonlinearity, which is attributed to the asymmetric polarization distribution induced by the polar structure. In this study, we experimentally demonstrated that the optical second harmonic generation (SHG) from TaAs decreases by more than 60% under pressure, despite the high-pressure structure remaining noncentrosymmetric. Our results indicate that the SHG yield is primarily controlled by a single element along the polar axis. This study confirms the connection between the polar axis and the giant optical nonlinearity of Weyl semimetals, and shows that pressure can be used to tune this effect.

Summary: The study found that in Ni-45%Cr alloys, discontinuous precipitation is favored at low temperatures and high Cr contents, while continuous precipitation is favored at high temperatures. The activation energies estimated showed that Nb and B suppress, but Zr promotes discontinuous precipitation. This research provides an effective method to understand the effect of additives on precipitation kinetics.

Summary: The study investigated the complexation ability and physicochemical properties of high amylose maize starch (HAMS) inclusion complexes with C18 fatty acids of various unsaturation levels. The results showed that the thermal stability of the complexes decreased with increasing unsaturation of the guest fatty acid, with different complexation methods influencing the formation and stability of the complexes. Ethanol concentration was found to play a role in forming inclusion complexes with higher crystallinity and thermal stability.

Summary: The study found that the size of microplastic particles affects the DSC signal, but through appropriate sample preparation, signals corresponding to microplastics of different sizes can be identified and quantified. Additionally, the application of DSC technique in the field of microplastics may provide estimates of the number of microplastic particles within a sample.

Summary: A new method combining DSC and numerical integration has been developed to determine solid-liquid equilibrium and eutectic compositions of hydrocarbon binary systems with high accuracy. The method includes a deconvolution procedure with an Asymmetric Double Sigmoidal equation for peak analysis, leading to significant time and resource savings compared to conventional methods. The new method was successfully validated against conventional methods with minimal errors in SLE data.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of temperature and initial moisture content on the critical relative humidity of whole-grain breakfast wheat biscuit using DVS and DSC methods. The results showed that RHc values were positively correlated with M0 and negatively correlated with temperature. Wheat biscuits with 7% moisture content were found to be optimally stored at RH below 43.2% at 20 degrees C.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized a new three-dimensional bimetal halide multiferroic material by introducing homochiral molecules as polar groups, which exhibits both ferroelectric and ferroelastic properties. This discovery represents an important step towards exploring new hybrid molecular multiferroic materials with the coexistence of ferroelectricity and ferroelasticity for future multifunctional applications.

Summary: The temperature ranges for phase stability were studied for the disordered and ordered polymorphs of complex rock salt Li3TaO4. The disordered Li3TaO4 can be obtained by heating a mixture of Li2CO3 and Ta2O5, but it transforms irreversibly to the ordered and monoclinic ll-Li(3)TaO(4 ) at high temperatures. The thermal stability of ll-Li3TaO4 is heavily dependent on the sealing of the container.

Summary: This study investigated the role of ABHD16B in lipid metabolism. The overexpression of ABHD16B was found to decrease cellular triacylglycerol levels and increase phospholipid synthesis in yeast cells. Additionally, ABHD16B overexpression led to a reduction in lipid droplets and significant modifications in fatty acid composition. These findings highlight the importance of ABHD16B in lipid homeostasis and provide insights into its regulatory function in cellular lipid metabolism.
