Summary: This study aims to understand the recent trends in benzonatate exposure and clinical consequences in pediatric patients. The study found that unintentional ingestion of benzonatate in children aged 0-5 years old has been increasing, and intentional ingestion of benzonatate in children aged 10-16 years old has also increased. Rational prescribing and improved awareness of benzonatate's toxic effects among healthcare providers and caregivers may help reduce the risks associated with benzonatate exposure.

Summary: The study estimated the trends of neuraxial analgesia (NA) rates in China and found that national policy can effectively increase NA rates nationwide. Additionally, there may be an increase in genital tract trauma and maternal near miss in low-resource hospitals, but not in high-resource hospitals, highlighting the need for further research to identify the reasons behind these differences.

Summary: The odds of adverse pregnancy outcomes associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) may vary among immigrant groups based on their country of origin. The association between GDM and pre-eclampsia, large for gestational age (LGA), and small for gestational age (SGA) is modified by the country of origin.

Summary: The study aimed to compare rates of assisted ventilation use between neonates born to women with three or more prior cesarean births who delivered at early term and full term. Results indicate that neonates born at early term had higher risk of requiring assisted ventilation for an extended period compared to those born at full term.

Summary: The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and cesarean section rates in Korean women showed a significantly increasing trend from 2012 to 2016. The pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) prevalence rate among GDM women showed a decreasing trend, but was not statistically significant.

Summary: This study is the first pilot program that uses Remimazolam as an adjunct to a general endotracheal anesthetic in children. Electronic medical records were collected for children who received Remimazolam during anesthesia between August 2020 and December 2022. The study found that Remimazolam offers the benefits of rapid recovery in children, but the risk of hemodynamic variability which necessitates and responds to ephedrine should be anticipated.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the cardiopulmonary safety of remimazolam and propofol in patients undergoing cervical conization. The results showed that remimazolam-alfentanil anesthesia was associated with a reduced incidence of intraoperative cardiopulmonary adverse events compared with propofol-alfentanil anesthesia in patients who underwent cold knife cervical conization.

Summary: Remimazolam is an interesting anaesthetic and sedative that combines the pharmacodynamic properties of midazolam with pharmacokinetic properties similar to remifentanil. However, recent case reports of anaphylaxis, delayed emergence, and re-sedation have raised concerns and require further investigation.

Summary: The twinning rate in China has been increasing, while adverse perinatal outcomes, such as stillbirth, small for gestational age (SGA), and low Apgar scores, have been decreasing. Changes in fertility policies have had little effect on twinning rates or the rates of adverse perinatal outcomes. The optimal gestational age for twins is 37 weeks. Pregnant women with twins and antepartum or medical complications should exercise caution.

Summary: This study used bibliometric methods to assess the global scientific output on immune-related adverse events for colorectal cancer (IRAEs) and explored the current status and trends in the field over the past three decades. The results showed that the number of publications has significantly increased over time, with the USA and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center being the major contributors. Co-occurrence analysis revealed that IRAEs for colorectal cancer were associated with immunotherapy and gut microbiota. Trend analysis indicated a rising interest in immune checkpoint inhibitors, gut microbiota, and inflammatory bowel disease in the study of IRAEs for colorectal cancer.

Summary: This study investigated the association between perceived self-efficacy level and anesthesia-related adverse events (ARAEs). The results showed that a higher level of self-efficacy was associated with a decreased incidence of ARAEs. These findings have important implications for medical educators and policymakers in enhancing self-efficacy construction in clinical practice and training.

Summary: This study suggests that the administration of prophylactic methylergonovine in addition to oxytocin reduces the need for additional uterotonic agents in patients undergoing intrapartum cesarean birth. It also improves uterine tone, reduces the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage, decreases quantitative blood loss, and lowers the frequency of blood transfusion.

Summary: The aim of neuraxial analgesia is to achieve excellent pain relief with the fewest adverse effects. The programmed intermittent epidural bolus technique has been introduced as a maintenance technique for epidural analgesia. Compared to patient-controlled epidural analgesia without background infusion, programmed intermittent epidural bolus is associated with less breakthrough pain, lower pain scores, higher local anaesthetic consumption, and comparable motor block.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of the 2010 Dependent Coverage Provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on the utilization of labor neuraxial analgesia during childbirth. The results showed that the implementation of the Dependent Coverage Provision was associated with a slight increase in the utilization rate of labor neuraxial analgesia, particularly among women aged 21 to 25 years. However, the effect size was too small to be clinically significant.
