Summary: ZnTiO3 supported on quartz microspheres reduces aggregation and enhances photocatalytic activity. Support on quartz microspheres increases the bandgap energy of ZnTiO3. The support has a significant effect on pore volume and surface area. The support reduces hole electron recombination efficiency. Supported ZnTiO3 exhibits superior photocatalytic activity compared to pure ZnTiO3.

Summary: The study successfully fabricated Al(2)O(3)fiber-reinforced silica matrix composites using the traditional sol-gel process, and investigated their mechanical properties under high temperatures. The composites exhibited outstanding tensile and flexural strength at high temperatures, with the ability to maintain high tensile strength even at 1300 degrees C. Additionally, the composites displayed ductile fracture after tensile tests and brittle fracture after heat treatment without the formation of new phases.

Summary: The mixed oxide catalysts of SiO2-Al2O3-NiO with different Si/Al ratio and Ni content were prepared and evaluated in ethylene oligomerization. The study found that Si/Al ratio influenced the materials' texture and acidity, and samples with high Al content exhibited excellent performances. The catalysts compared well with model catalysts prepared by time-consuming multistep procedures from expensive ordered mesoporous silica supports.

Summary: This study focuses on the analysis of the crystallization process and the optical responses of Al2O3/glass-ceramic coatings on a brass substrate after laser surface modification. The study found that increasing irradiation power enhances the resolution of the photoluminescence response, and X-ray diffraction patterns show the presence of different crystalline phases in the irradiated samples.

Summary: The new type of engineered stone developed using a CuO/SiO2 nanocomposite matrix synthesized via sol-gel as a binder and quartz particles of different grain size as aggregate, presents anti-fungal properties, high surface hardness, thermal resistance, and appropriate impact resistance. The proportion of CuO in the matrix and water content modify the sol-gel kinetics and quartz sedimentation, affecting the structure and mechanical properties.

Summary: This study demonstrates the synthesis of SrAl2O4 doped with Eu, Dy, and B in a SiO2 glass structure using the low-temperature sol-gel method. By varying the synthesis conditions, water-soluble precursors and a dilute aqueous solution of rare-earth nitrates were used as starting materials, resulting in translucent, persistently luminescent glass. It is concluded that the slow drying procedure is optimal for removing excess water and solvent molecules, while boron plays a crucial role in the formation of trapping centers.

Summary: This study investigates the corrosion protection of magnesium alloys through anodizing and sol-gel deposition of an epoxy-alkyl coating. The results show that the curing temperature affects the polycondensation of the organic-inorganic network. Deposition of the epoxy-alkyl coating on the optimized anodic layers improves corrosion resistance and provides longer protection lifespan.

Summary: Silicate bioglass is essential in bone engineering for its bioactivity and osteogenic effects. The study synthesized hydroxyapatite-like bioactive glass based on the xSiO2-CaO-P2O5 system and investigated its structural evolution, apatite-forming ability, and cytotoxicity. Higher heat treatment temperature and lower SiO2 content increase crystallinity tendency and sample compactness, with 30Si sample showing remarkable mesoporous structures and high specific surface area, demonstrating excellent hydroxyapatite formation and no inhibitory effect on hPDLCs.

Summary: This paper presents a new approach to preparing capillary optical fibers using sol-gel method. A novel modification of sol-gel techniques is employed for applying layers onto the inner walls of silica tubes. Multilayer internal coatings with alternating low-index silica layers and high-index titania layers are prepared using novel materials prepared by sol-gel method. Morphology and optical properties of single layers and multilayer coatings are studied, and fibers with low optical losses below 0.02 dB/cm are successfully prepared.

Summary: SiO2-CaO (SC) and SiO2-CaO-P2O5 (SCP) glasses doped with 0.3 mol% Tm3+ and 4 mol% Yb3+ ions were prepared by sol-gel method. The bioactivity of the glasses was investigated by immersing them in DPBS for four weeks. The results showed that hydroxyapatite started to build up after 1-3 days of incubation in DPBS. The upconversion emission spectra of Tm3+ decreased and the decay times shorten slightly after immersion in the buffer.

Summary: Amphiphobic coatings with the anti-reflective property offer a promising strategy to mitigate the degradation of photovoltaic conversion efficiency in solar cells caused by fouling and reflection of incident light. In this study, a unique nanostructure coating with extremely low roughness and surface energy is constructed by integrating fluorinated cluster core-shell structured silicon sols (BASSF) into a self-made silicon precursor (S-P) using a template-free two-step base/acid-catalyzed reaction. The S-P@BASSF coating exhibits exceptional anti-fouling performance, high weathering resistance, and swift recovery to its initial efficiency after severe dust contamination.

Summary: Hybrid coatings of SiO2 and recycled unsaturated polyester resin (R-UPR) were prepared by the sol-gel process on glass substrates. The results showed that SiO2 enhanced the mechanical and thermal properties of the R-UPR, and the coatings exhibited excellent adhesion to the substrate with a smooth surface.

Summary: Ce-doped calcium silicate-based bioactive glass sols were electrospun and heat-treated to form cotton-like fibrous structures. The 3D structures consisted of long and entangled fibers with interconnected pores, and the successful incorporation of Ce was confirmed by EDX analysis. The fibers exhibited high hydrophilicity and in vitro bioactivity in simulated body fluid. They showed no cytotoxicity to keratinocytes and did not hinder the wound closure process in vitro.
