In the present study, silver-doped silica thin films on glazed surface of ceramic tiles were well prepared by sol-gel method to achieve antibacterial activity. Thermal treatment was done in the air at 1100 degrees C for two hours. The Ag/SiO2 thin films were investigated through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and wavelength dispersive spectrometry (WDS). Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) was used for the quantitative determination of the silver ion concentration being released from Ag/SiO2 films over a 24 day period. The antibacterial effects of Ag/SiO2 thin films against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were also examined. From the analysis results, it was found that high temperature treated coating consists of two phases of SiO2 and Ag based on the trapping of the Ag phase in the silica matrix. The presence of Ag elements on the surface of the coated tiles, were also observed. Thermal treatment at high temperatures caused sharp XRD peaks and high crystallinity in this system. Ag+ ions were released constantly and the mean release rate (+/- SD) was 0.104 +/- 0.01 mu g/ml during 24 days. Coating films exhibited an excellent antibacterial performance against both bacterium. Is breast milk iodine concentration an influential factor in growth- and obesity-related hormones and infants' growth parameters?

Pantea Nazeri, Zhale Tahmasebinejad, Mehdi Hedayati, Parvin Mirmiran, Fereidoun Azizi

Summary: The study found a positive association between breast milk iodine concentration and weight-for-length z-score of infants, potentially independent of growth- and obesity-related hormones. The specific mechanisms behind this relationship require further elucidation.

Long-term high-fat diet disrupts lipid metabolism and causes inflammation in adult male rats: possible intervention of endoplasmic reticulum stress

Fateme Binayi, Mehdi Moslemi, Fariba Khodagholi, Mehdi Hedayati, Homeira Zardooz

Summary: This study investigated the effects of long-term high-fat diet on plasma lipid profile and inflammation probability in adult rats. The results showed that high-fat diet increased body weight, food intake, intra-abdominal fat, and plasma leptin level. Additionally, it increased plasma concentrations of triglycerides, LDL, cholesterol, and IL 1-beta, while decreasing HDL level. Injection of an ER stress inhibitor reversed these changes. It suggests that long-term high-fat diet can disrupt lipid metabolism and induce inflammation through ER stress.

Comprehensive review of resveratrol as a feed additive in dairy cows: exploring its potential diverse effects and implications

M. R. Rezaei Ahvanooei, M. A. Norouzian, M. Hedayati, M. H. Ghaffari

Summary: Heat stress and growing demand for dairy products in tropical regions can cause metabolic diseases and economic losses in dairy cows. However, the use of resveratrol (RSV) can help prevent these problems by providing antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, and antimicrobial effects. RSV also improves reproductive performance and reduces methane emissions. It is important to note that the dosage of RSV is crucial, as high doses can have adverse effects. Overall, RSV polyphenol at optimal doses shows promise for preventing and treating metabolic abnormalities in dairy cows.
