Summary: This study investigated the relationship between sensitivity to olfactory stimuli and the clinical course of migraine. The results showed that patients with longer migraine duration and higher migraine-related impairment demonstrated increased sensitivity to odors during preictal, ictal, and interictal phases.

Summary: This report shows that migraine patients may present with different olfactory hallucination manifestations, some occurring before headaches and some persisting. Due to the clinical significance, it is suggested that ICHD classify this phenomenon as a subtype of aura in the future, but further larger studies are needed to better assess its pathophysiology.

Summary: In this study, the diagnostic gaps in the diagnosis of comorbid migraine without aura (MwoA) in patients with idiopathic/genetic epilepsy (I/GE) were disclosed using a zone concept. Longer headache duration, throbbing pain, increase of pain by physical activity, photophobia and/or phonophobia, presence of vertigo/dizziness, osmophobia, and higher VAS scores were found to be the main associated factors for the comorbid MwoA diagnosis in patients with I/GEs.

Summary: Since the first descriptions of visual hallucinations in migraine and occipital lobe epilepsy, recognizing epileptic seizures of the occipital lobe has become a challenge due to the similarities with migraine symptoms. Detailed clinical examination of visual impairment can help differentiate the two diseases, especially in children where overlaps are common. Understanding the distinctive features of visual aura in migraine and visual hallucinations in occipital epilepsy can provide insights into the underlying mechanisms of these conditions.

Summary: In pediatric neurology, tension-type headache (TTH) is a common primary headache among children. However, it is often underestimated and difficult to differentiate from secondary and other primary headaches in childhood. There can be clinical overlap between migraine and TTH in children, with migraine attacks presenting tension headache-like features and TTH displaying migraine-like symptoms. Factors such as hormonal changes, triggers, and genetic and epigenetic factors play a role in the complex trajectory of headache evolution. This review aims to summarize the literature on the differential diagnosis of TTH in pediatrics, the possible outcomes during development, and appropriate therapeutic strategies.

Summary: This study showed that pregnant women with migraine with aura and tension-type headache are at increased risk of delivering small for gestational age infants. Additionally, abnormal utero-placenta markers in the first trimester were associated with these headache disorders. Therefore, these women may require additional attention and interventions during pregnancy.

Summary: This review examines the use of fMRI to study the mechanisms of migraine. It finds that migraine attacks are associated with hypothalamic hyperexcitability and disruptions in the pain and central trigeminovascular pathways. The visual cortex also becomes hyperexcitable during the aura phase. Additionally, disruptions in the pontine, thalamic, sensorimotor, and visual networks are observed during the headache phase, while hypothalamic activity and connectivity normalize. The visual cortex remains hyperexcitable during the postdromal phase, and asymptomatic migraine patients also show functional alterations in pain and visual processing brain areas.

Summary: New daily persistent headache is a challenging condition characterized by daily headache from onset. A study conducted in London found that most patients experienced chronic migraine, with a subset also experiencing thunderclap-onset headache. Factors like aura types, prior headache history, and premorbid disorders were also observed in the study cohort. Improvement was seen in a small percentage of patients, with some responding well to preventative medications like amitriptyline.

Summary: The study found that environmental conditions were the most common triggers of migraine headache among Sudanese patients, while Acetaminophen was the most commonly used drug for relieving migraine in this population. The majority of patients were female (80%), aged 26-35 years (56.9%), and a significant proportion were housewives (40%).

Summary: Numerous epidemiological studies have explored the potential link between migraine and breast cancer due to their association with female reproductive hormones. Current evidence suggests a protective role of migraine in breast cancer development, particularly in case-control studies. However, the inconsistency among studies and recent research challenging this concept indicate a more complex relationship between the two conditions. Further studies are needed to validate the protective role of migraine in breast cancer and identify the precise nature of this causal relationship.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and characteristics of headaches in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients treated with disease-modifying therapies (DMTs). The study found that more than half of MS patients experienced headaches, with the prevalence of migraines being almost three times higher than tension-type headaches. Migraines in MS patients had high severity and typical migraine characteristics.

Summary: The first European guidelines for Tourette Syndrome (TS) were published in 2011 by the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome (ESSTS). The updated part on pharmacological treatment emphasizes the importance of psychoeducation and behavioral approaches as first-line treatments. Pharmacological treatment, particularly with dopamine blocking agents like aripiprazole, is indicated in some patients, especially when behavioral approaches are not effective or feasible. Treatment should be individualized based on the patient's needs, preferences, and co-existing conditions.

Summary: A cross-sectional study compared the effects of social distancing and lifestyle changes during the COVID-19 lockdown on children and adolescents with and without Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDDs). Results showed that NDDs significantly impacted remote learning, sociality, scolding, and anxiety levels. There was agreement between parents and children regarding remote learning, lifestyle, and scolding. This study highlights the importance of supportive strategies for youth with NDDs during periods of lockdown.

Summary: The presence of CAS in migraine, usually associated with trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias, has also been reported in adult and pediatric populations. Experimental evidence suggests that increased parasympathetic outflow can enhance the sensitization of nociceptive receptors involved in migraine. Identifying and understanding these symptoms in migraine may be crucial for diagnosis and effective management.

Summary: Dysgraphia is a learning disability characterized by below-average handwriting production. This study examines the role of visual perception in handwriting skills through gamified visual perception tests played with an eye tracker. Machine learning models using game performance, eye-tracking, and drawing data as predictors successfully predicted children at risk of dysgraphia. These results suggest the potential of a new tool for early screening of dysgraphia based on visual perception skills.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical course and prognostic factors of pediatric migraine. The study found that familial neurological comorbidity and sleep disorders were unfavorable factors for predicting the long-term prognosis of pediatric migraine. Summary: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a growing problem among adolescent groups, both clinical and nonclinical, and is associated with various psychopathological symptoms. However, differences between clinical and nonclinical self-harmers in symptom dimensions, alexithymia, and self-harm-related variables have been understudied. This study investigated these differences by comparing an Italian sample of 63 self-harmers receiving mental health services (clinical group), 44 self-harmers not receiving mental health services (subclinical group), and 231 individuals without a history of NSSI (control group). Questionnaires were used to assess psychopathological symptoms, alexithymia, and NSSI-related variables. The results showed that the clinical and subclinical groups had more severe symptoms and alexithymic traits compared to the control group, with the clinical group showing higher NSSI frequency, disclosure, self-punishment as motive, and suicidal ideation compared to the subclinical group. These findings have implications for clinical practice and prevention efforts among adolescents.

Summary: A multicenter web-based survey was conducted among members of the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (SIGENP) and Italian Society of Pediatric Neurology (SINP) to evaluate the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to CVS in Italy.
