Mutations in keratinocyte and melanocyte precursors that are caused by extensive sun exposure are well-established contributors to skin cancer. Now Hu et al. provide evidence that the sun's harmful rays may also cause tumor-promoting epigenetic modifications in dermal fibroblasts, high-lighting further the importance of tumor-stroma interactions in cancer.
