SiC supported nickel catalyst exhibits high activity and selectivity but a little coke deposition in partial oxidation of methane (POM) to syngas, while Ni/Si3N4 catalyst shows excellent activity and coke resistance but slightly poor selectivity. This work employed nitrogen-doped SiC as the catalyst support in order to obtain a POM catalyst with high selectivity and excellent coke resistance. From the testing results, the catalyst 1 h nitridized SiC as the support shows excellent activity, selectivity and coke resistance. The improvement of the catalyst performances benefits from the transformation of the support surface properties. (C) 2009 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.
