Summary: The study analyzed the long-term persistence of treatment in fracture liaison service (FLS) and found that most patients started treatment within five years, although the persistence rate decreased over time.

Summary: This study reveals a significant and persistent treatment gap in anti-osteoporosis treatment in patients aged 50 years and older who suffered major osteoporotic fractures in Denmark between 2005 and 2014, even with the inclusion of hospital-administered treatments. Strengthened post-fracture care organization and secondary fracture prevention are urgently needed.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the incidence of bisphosphonate treatment failure, associated radiological factors, and effect of fracture healing in postmenopausal women with osteoporotic vertebral fractures. The non-response group had significantly lower initial BMD values than the response group, and the initial BMD value of the spine and the FRAX hip were identified as radiological factors influencing bisphosphonate non-response. These findings provide insights into the possible mechanisms and factors influencing bisphosphonate treatment failure in osteoporosis.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of bisphosphonate (BP) on mortality post osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF), and finds that BP medication is significantly associated with reduced all-cause mortality after OVF.

Summary: The study found that Korean dentists have insufficient awareness of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw and lack consistency in responding to patients' drug history prior to dental procedures. There is a need for increased cooperation between dentists and physicians, as well as targeted educational interventions for the dental profession, to reduce the risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Summary: Conflicting results exist regarding the association between bariatric surgery and fracture risk. A study combining a self-controlled case series and a cohort study found that major fracture risk increases after bariatric surgery, but there is no significant increase in peripheral fracture risk.

Summary: Osteoporotic fractures have significant impact on quality of life, but half of the patients may discontinue their anti-osteoporosis medication. Factors associated with medication discontinuation include younger age, female gender, non-use of calcium supplements, and anti-resorptive medication.

Summary: The mortality rates within CPRD GOLD were slightly lower than the national population, with cohorts having observational lookback showing even lower death rates, while the mortality rates in the first two years after entry into CPRD were higher than the general population but dropped below afterwards.

Summary: This study examined medication adherence in women with osteoporosis before and after a fracture. The results show that many women experience a decline in medication adherence after a fracture, which is paradoxical to expectations. Fracture on therapy represents an important opportunity for clinicians to emphasize treatment adherence.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the preventive effect of teriparatide (TPD) administration on medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) before tooth extraction. The results showed that TPD reduced the occurrence of MRONJ in rats treated with zoledronic acid.

Summary: In an Ontario fracture liaison service, medication prescription rates were similar between patients not taking a previously prescribed bone active medication and those with no previous prescription. The FLS provided a secondary opportunity for patients to initiate bone active medication.

Summary: This study investigated the association between combined use of two antipsychotic drugs and the risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, or hyperlipidemia in adults with schizophrenia. The results showed that compared to monotherapy, polypharmacy increased the risk of hypertension in patients.

Summary: Poor adherence to osteoporosis treatment leads to lower bone mineral density and higher fracture rates. Reliable and practical measurement tools are needed to assess medication adherence. This systematic review aimed to identify osteoporosis medication adherence measurement tools and evaluate their applicability.
