Coronary arteriovenous fistula (CAVF) is a rarely encountered congenital coronary anomaly, in which coronary artery blood flow bypasses the myocardial capillary network and usually drains to a heart chamber or great vessel. It is usually asymptomatic. However, the risk of symptoms and complications increases with age. High output heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, myocardial ischemia and infective endocarditis may complicate the course of this anomaly. The appearance, and even rupture, of a saccular aneurysm is one of the even rarer complications of CAVE Here we describe a 57 year-old patient with incidental finding of an aneurysmal CAVF which was treated successfully using covered stent. Summary: This study systematically evaluated the effectiveness and mechanisms of action of Akkermansia muciniphila supplementation in the management of obesity. The findings suggest that Akkermansia supplementation could be a novel therapeutic approach for obesity and metabolic complications associated with obesity, but further clinical trials are needed to confirm these outcomes.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases are major causes of global mortality. Genome editing technology, especially the CRISPR/Cas9 system, has great potential for therapeutic approaches and has been widely used in molecular biology. This review discusses the possibilities of applying CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in cardiovascular diseases.

Summary: The study found that aging and diabetes cause loss of cardioprotection against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. However, administration of a mitochondrial cocktail (melatonin/nicotinamide mononucleotide/ubiquinol) significantly improved myocardial I/R injury and restored mitochondrial function and biogenesis through regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis gene expression.

Human cardiac organoids: A recent revolution in disease modeling and regenerative medicine

Neda Roshanravan, Samad Ghaffari, Sepideh Bastani, Sara Pahlavan, Samira Asghari, Mohammad Amin Doustvandi, Sepideh Jalilzadeh-Razin, Mohammadreza Dastouri

Summary: Three-dimensional myocardial tissues, known as cardiac organoids, have gained significant attention for studying human heart biology, physiology, and pharmacology. These organoids, created from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) or embryonic stem cells (ESCs) along with other co-cultured cells, such as endothelial cells or fibroblasts, have advanced organ research and enabled tissue regeneration and disease modeling in the cardiovascular field.

Association of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with angiographic SYNTAX score in patients with non-ST-Segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS)

Summary: The study found a positive correlation between presentation NLR and SYNTAX score in patients with NSTE-ACS, but NLR did not significantly contribute to predicting SYNTAX score after adjusting for TIMI score. TIMI risk score may be a better predictor of SYNTAX score compared to NLR in this specific patient population.
