Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the fatigue behavior and other characteristics of strength-graded zirconia polycrystals used in monolithic three-unit implant-supported prostheses. Three different prosthesis groups were tested, and their fatigue failure load, the number of cycles until failure, and survival rates were recorded. The graded zirconia showed promising results compared to the bilayer group, with higher fatigue failure load, survival rates, and reliability. The microstructure and composition of the graded zirconia were also analyzed. The study concludes that the strength-graded monolithic zirconia, especially the 3Y-TZP/5Y-TZP, is a promising material for use in implant-supported prostheses.

Summary: The study evaluated the chipping and failure rates of metal-ceramic and ceramic implant-supported fixed dental prostheses, as well as combined tooth-implant-supported fixed dental prostheses. Metal-ceramic fixed dental prostheses had lower chipping rates compared to zirconia fixed dental prostheses, which showed a higher risk of chipping. Implant-implant-supported and combined tooth-implant-supported fixed dental prostheses demonstrated promising long-term survival rates.

Summary: This in vitro study assessed the effects of different cements and titanium coping designs on the retention of implant-supported fixed dental prostheses (IFDPs). The results showed that quick-set resin provided higher retention force for acrylic resin prostheses. Conical and cylindrical titanium copings performed similarly when cemented to zirconia with Panavia SA cement. The retention force and failure modes were influenced by the cement used.

Summary: The aim of the study was to compare the long-term survival of vital teeth adjacent to bounded edentulous spaces rehabilitated using different techniques. The results showed that rehabilitating a single bounded edentulous space with CFPD could increase the risk for TAES loss compared with ISP. However, the risk of TAES loss remained similar between ISP and RBFPD.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the functional changes in the stomatognathic system after implant rehabilitation procedures. The results showed no statistical differences in muscular activity between the implant rehabilitation group and the control group during clenching and mastication. Additionally, there were no differences within the same implant rehabilitation group, both initially and after 6 months. The study suggests that implant-prosthetic rehabilitation leads to immediate restoration of muscle contraction capacity without the need for adaptation over time.

Summary: This in vitro study evaluated the influence of restoration design and manufacturing technique on the marginal discrepancy and internal fit of zirconia fixed dental prostheses. The results showed that the restoration design and veneering methods did not affect the marginal discrepancy, but did have an impact on the internal fit. Therefore, using monolithic zirconia fixed dental prostheses could be a viable alternative technique.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the self-perceived confidence levels of fifth-year dental students in different restorative-related tasks and the relationship between their clinical training and confidence. Results showed that students felt most prepared and confident in direct restorations and simple endodontic treatment, while they exhibited less confidence in indirect restorations and complex endodontic treatment. Enhancing student clinical skills and providing directed exposure is necessary to raise their perceived confidence levels for positive effects on their current and future professional performance.

Summary: This study conducted a large-scale numerical simulation of a real-world dentistry clinic with aerosol-generating procedures, analyzing the dispersion of evaporating droplets emitted during ultrasonic dental scaling. Results indicated concerns about aerosols' long residence times and travel distances exceeding social distancing guidelines, expanding contamination beyond the immediate patient treatment areas.

Summary: Throughout 2020 and beyond, the global community has witnessed a significant increase in the spread of COVID-19. This study focuses on understanding splatter from a common dentistry technique, using optical flow tracking velocimetry to analyze droplet velocity and trajectory. High velocities of isolated droplets were observed in the splatter produced by a high-speed dental instrument, raising concerns for health safety.

Summary: Osteoimmunology plays a crucial role in the osseointegration of implants by regulating the communication between bone cells and immune cells, as well as utilizing surface topography to enhance bone accrual. This review summarizes the interactions between immune cells and titanium implant surfaces, placing them in the context of surface-mediated immunomodulation and bone regeneration. It also discusses the use of surface topography to prevent osteoclastogenesis and its effects on immune and progenitor cell function.
