Summary: This systematic review aimed to identify validated self-reported instruments used to measure nurses' competence in empowering patient education and assess their quality. The findings revealed that the psychometric properties and methodological quality of the instruments were generally adequate, but there was a lack of evidence and variability in testing. Thus, further testing of the psychometric properties and development of instruments should be conducted to strengthen nurses' competence in empowering patient education.

Summary: This study examines the impact of patient empowerment components (education, perceived control, doctor support, and patient participation) on patients' trust in doctors and relationship commitment, ultimately leading to patient loyalty. The results show that education and doctor support empower patients to trust their doctors and commit to the relationship, with relationship commitment being the most influential factor in building patient loyalty in the healthcare sector.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the association between sleep improvement interventions and patients' sleep, finding that interventions targeting sleep quality may be effective, particularly for men. Clinical importance should be placed on investing in nursing interventions to promote patients' sleep, with individualized sleep support being a key component in care plans. Further research is needed to confirm the findings and support more personalized interventions for optimal patient sleep outcomes.

Summary: Empowerment is a core concept in health behavior and an emerging trend in pediatrics, but little is known about the nature and effectiveness of interventions supporting empowerment in families with preschool-age children. Limited studies suggest positive outcomes, with most claiming theoretical bases but lacking details on theory application in intervention planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as scarce children's involvement in the interventions.

Summary: Refusal self-efficacy plays an important role in protecting against risky health behaviors, and digital interventions have the potential to support this self-efficacy. This systematic review evaluated the evidence of digital interventions in promoting refusal self-efficacy among children and adolescents. The review identified various digital interventions that improved refusal self-efficacy, particularly in girls. However, more high-quality research with larger sample sizes is needed to strengthen the evidence and to fully understand the benefits and weaknesses of using digital interventions in child and adolescent health promotion.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a gamified live feedback intervention and explores underlying behavioral theories in improving the hand hygiene behavior of preschool children in early childhood education and care settings. The study will be a four-arm cluster randomized controlled trial with three phases and a twelve-month follow-up by country stratification. The outcome measures include hand hygiene behavior, self-efficacy, and intrinsic motivation. The findings will provide insights into whether this intervention can be recommended for educational settings to promote the hand hygiene behavior of preschool children.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the incidence of intensive care acquired infections and the change over time in infection practices in one intensive care unit using an action research approach. The results showed an increase in alcohol-based hand rub consumption and improvement in observed hand hygiene compliance during the study. Although there was a decrease in critical care acquired infection rates in the first cycle of the study, the improvement was not sustainable.

Summary: The study examined factors associated with smoking refusal self-efficacy among early adolescents in Finland and Portugal. The results showed that experiences with tobacco, smoking-related attitudes and motives, motivation to refrain from smoking in the future, and smoking outcome expectations were all related to smoking refusal self-efficacy. Gender, and the smoking behavior of relatives and friends were identified as independent predictors of smoking refusal self-efficacy. The findings highlight the importance of considering peer influence and social acceptance of smoking when developing health education programs.

Summary: This study examined the views of music therapists on the progress of emotional skills in early adolescents with mental health conditions. The therapists observed improvement in both daily functioning and therapy sessions. They used a wide range of methods, including music-based and non-music-based approaches. Although they found the conceptual model of emotional skills valid, they faced challenges in applying all levels of the model. The study contributes to knowledge on emotional skill development, working methods, and perspectives for working with early adolescents in therapy.

Summary: The aim of this study was to describe the concepts of delirium and acute confusion, as well as the associated dimensions, in adult patients in a surgical context from the nursing perspective. The nurses viewed delirium as a continuum rather than individual diagnoses. The acute phase of delirium was emphasized, and preoperative or prolonged disturbance did not seem to be relevant in the surgical care context. Patients' compliance with care may be decreased with the continuum of delirium, which might challenge both patients' recovery from surgery and the quality of nursing care.
