Summary: This study examined the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on male reproductive health by assessing semen parameters and fertilization rate before and after vaccination. The results indicate that the vaccine does not affect sperm quality and fertilization capacity of men undergoing ART treatments.

Summary: Several retrospective studies have shown that systemic treatment in patients with psoriasis may lower the risk of developing psoriatic arthritis (PsA). However, these studies have limitations in providing a conclusive understanding of PsA risk, preventing a clear picture from emerging.

Summary: This study found that the use of statin drugs may help slow down or stabilize Aβ deposition in subjects without cognitive impairment. However, once clinical symptoms of cognitive impairment appear, statins fail to slow down Aβ deposition. Overall, statin users may have slower Aβ aggregation compared to non-users.

Summary: This study examined the impact of arsenic exposure on prostate carcinogenesis in a rat model. The results showed that drinking water containing sodium arsenite did not affect the induction of prostate cancer or survival in the rats, nor did it affect their growth or water intake.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of periodic fasting on somatosensory nerve function in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The results showed that six-month periodic fasting was safe and had no detrimental effects on somatosensory nerve function in T2D patients.

Summary: This study demonstrates differential and unique influences of ferric maltol and ferrous sulphate supplements on intestinal microbiota. FS treatment led to an increase in five genera, but FM was not associated with any measurable change. The severity of DSS-induced colitis was greater with FSS than FMS.

Summary: Phosphatidylcholine (PC) lipid bilayers with high hydration can significantly reduce sliding friction on surfaces. This study found that dehydration does not greatly affect the friction, as the higher areal head-group density and rigidity enhancement of the lipid bilayers offset the removal of hydration water from the lipid head-groups. This highlights the robustness of lipid-based hydration lubrication in biological systems.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of marijuana use on complication rates and weight loss outcomes after bariatric surgery. The results showed that patients with a history of marijuana use generally had higher preoperative BMI, but marijuana use was not associated with complications or percent weight loss.

Summary: This study compared the kinetics, kinematics, and performance of countermovement jumps (CMJs) under two different loading conditions (centralized or peripheral). The results showed that the loading condition did not significantly affect the kinetic and kinematic variables. However, increasing load significantly affected jump height, force, velocity, and acceleration variables.

Summary: The decline in muscle protein synthesis rates during short-term disuse does not fully account for muscle atrophy, and 2 days of unilateral knee immobilization does not affect muscle protein breakdown rates. Instead, the muscle negative protein balance associated with brief periods of disuse is primarily driven by reduced basal muscle protein synthesis rates and anabolic resistance to amino acid administration.

Summary: This study investigates the dissolution rates of phytoliths from different grass species and explores the surface changes caused by dissolution. The results show that different grass species have different dissolution rates and that dissolution leads to cavity formation and disappearance of fragile silica particles on phytolith surfaces. These findings provide a benchmark for reconstructing paleoenvironments using grass phytolith assemblages from buried soils and sediments.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of a high-fat meal and a high-carbohydrate meal on energy expenditure, substrate oxidation, glucose, insulin, triglycerides, and homocysteine concentration in men with different nutritional statuses. The findings revealed that men with excess body weight metabolized nutrients differently and had different postprandial insulin secretion compared to men with normal body weight. Consumption of a high-fat meal increased the concentration of potential risk factors for cardiovascular disease in overweight/obese men.
