Summary: Female esophageal cancer patients have better long-term survival rates compared to males, but the association between sex and EC survival varies depending on age, race, tumor grade, histology, and treatment modality. Sex-based disparity in EC-specific survival is related to age in the U.S. population.

Summary: Boys with acute lymphoblastic leukemia continue to have lower survival rates compared to girls. This study found that the sex-based disparities still exist in contemporary therapy, with boys experiencing inferior event-free survival and overall survival, primarily due to higher rates of relapse, particularly involving the central nervous system.

Summary: This population-based study indicates that living in higher median household income counties is associated with increased survival time and reduced risk of mortality for patients with NSCLC who have brain metastases present at diagnosis, independent of other factors.

Summary: In patients with SNAC, increasing age, male sex, and more recent decade of diagnosis are associated with shorter survival. Counties with more rural populations have higher rates of SNAC-related death. Targeting rural and less well-educated populations may help reduce survival disparities related to SNAC.

Summary: The study revealed that male patients with thyroid cancer had poorer overall survival and cancer-specific survival. Factors such as race, age, income, histological type, surgery, T, N, M stage influenced the overall survival of male and female thyroid cancer patients, with race having no impact on cancer-specific survival but median income affecting only male patients' cancer-specific survival.

Summary: This study found that children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) living along the US-Mexico border had lower survival rates compared to those living in nonborder areas. However, there was no significant difference in survival rates between border and nonborder residence for children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The study calls for further research to identify the factors contributing to these disparities and design effective interventions and cancer control programs.

Summary: Using the SEER database, this study identified 3877 APL patients diagnosed from 2000 to 2014. Among them, 465 were s-APL and 3412 were dn-APL. s-APL patients had older median age and higher early mortality rate compared to dn-APL. The multivariate Cox model analysis showed that s-APL was independently associated with worse survival. Notably, s-APL had significantly inferior survival regardless of gender, race, marital status, and year of diagnosis. This study highlights the importance of improving treatment for s-APL.

Summary: This study investigates the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of primary Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) patients. The results show that BPDCN is a rare and poorly understood hematopoietic malignancy with a poor prognosis. Advanced age, second primary malignancies (SPMs), and radiation therapy are associated with survival outcomes.

Summary: This study analyzed the outcomes of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) at the population level. The incidence of CMML remained stable over time, with a higher rate in males and in White and 'Other' races compared to Black patients. Three-year relative survival rate showed improvement over the studied time periods, particularly between 2001-2004 and 2005-2009. Survival rates generally improved for all subgroups except Black patients. There was an increase in long-term survivors and in patients aged 85 and above. Further research is needed to explore these associations, especially for Black patients.

Summary: In the United States, a certain proportion of the population never or rarely used computers, the internet, and email in 2018, but 55% had looked up health information online in the previous 12 months. Internet usage varied by region, age, race, education, family income, and insurance status.

Summary: Bladder carcinosarcoma (BCS) has been found to have distinct clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis compared to conventional bladder cancer histologies. BCS is associated with poor differentiation, advanced stage, and worse overall survival and cancer-specific survival. However, BCS is comparable to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in terms of survival. These findings contribute to a better understanding of BCS and have potential implications for clinical practice.

Summary: The study found that racial disparities among cutaneous melanoma patients have worsened from before the year 2000 to 2010 or later. Patients with localized disease across all minority groups suffered increasing disparity, highlighting the need for improved postdiagnosis management for minorities to mitigate disparity and improve survival.

Summary: Racial and socioeconomic disparities contribute to disparate outcomes in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Factors such as age, race, gender, payer, hospital location, and teaching status are associated with in-hospital mortality rates. Recognizing the role of race/ethnicity and socioeconomic factors is important in addressing these disparities in AML outcomes.
