Summary: Inadequate drinking water quality is a major cause of preventable mortality, especially in young children and where resources are limited. The current methods for measuring fecal contamination in water require overnight incubation and specialized training, while we have developed a phage-based assay that can detect and semi-quantify E. coli in less than 6 hours by minimally trained personnel.

Summary: The prerequisites for rapid screening of total bacteria in drinking water are low detection limit and convenience. Inspired by commercial ATP-based total bacterial detection kits, we proposed a one-step multi-functional reagent that achieved a LOD two orders of magnitude lower than that of the ATP kit. The proposed reagent could detect minute quantity of total bacteria that is otherwise undetected by the ATP kit, making it a more efficient and sensitive method for bacterial detection.

Summary: Cartap, widely used in agricultural crops and tea plants, can be readily photolyzed into nereistoxin under ultraviolet light, with the addition of water-soluble components in tea having an inhibitory effect on the photodegradation process. This research provides insights for the development of effective methods for the removal of cartap and its metabolite in water and tea beverages.

Summary: This study proposed a label-free Cu2O/Ag SERS nanoprobe for detecting total As in tea. The CARS-PLS algorithm was found to be the most effective in predicting total As concentration in tea, with high correlation coefficient and low prediction error. The nanoprobe showed high sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility, and stability in comparison with ICP-MS method, making it a promising tool for monitoring heavy metal contaminants in tea.

Summary: We developed a simple and rapid method for selectively counting lactic acid bacteria in commercially prepared yogurt using image analysis and k-means clustering. This method distinguishes cocci and bacilli based on the shape and light intensity of LAB cell images, and assigns each LAB to the corresponding group using clustering. The results obtained by this method are in good agreement with manual counting, with a time saving of approximately 1/32 compared to traditional methods.

Summary: Four lanthanide metal-organic frameworks were constructed with different lanthanide ions, showing emissions in different colors. Tb-MOF exhibited excellent Fe3+ detection capability in aqueous media with strong anti-interference ability towards other cations and easy recognition by naked eyes. Additionally, these MOFs were efficient fluorescent sensors for detecting acetone.

Summary: In this study, a pair of chiral Cu-I coordination polymers (1-M and 1-P) were successfully prepared by asymmetric assembly of achiral ligands and Cu2I2 clusters. These compounds exhibited dual emission bands and could be used as single-phase white-light phosphors, achieving high color rendering index and appropriate correlated color temperature. Additionally, circularly polarized luminescence signals were observed. This is the first realization of simultaneous intrinsic white-light emission and circularly polarized luminescence in coordination polymers.

Summary: Materials with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior have strong emission in solid state and can respond to external stimuli, which is important for the development of materials for optical sensing, bioimaging, and optoelectronic devices. In this study, an AIE-based MOF named FJI-H31 was prepared using an AIE luminogen as the ligand. FJI-H31 showed bright luminescence under ambient conditions but no emission under vacuum. The emission intensity increased smoothly and reversibly with increased gas pressure, attributed to the restriction of intramolecular motion under pressure stimulus. Unlike most pressure-responsive MOFs, the luminescence reverted to its original state once the gas pressure recovered.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are effective carriers for molecular imprinting, but their poor dispersibility in aqueous solution is a significant drawback. In this study, we have applied amphiphilic block copolymers and molecularly imprinted technology on MOFs to improve the hydrophilicity of molecularly imprinted fluorescent materials.
