Summary: This study investigated the impact of different prostate sampling methods on the pathologic results of radical cystoprostatectomy specimens. The findings suggest that a complete embedding method can better detect urothelial carcinoma involvement in the prostate and provide more accurate diagnosis of prostatic adenocarcinoma.

Summary: This study found that six serum metabolites were associated with the risk of kidney cancer, and three of these metabolites had independent associations in the mutually adjusted model. These metabolites may point to new biological pathways relevant to kidney malignancy.

Summary: This study revealed significant disparities in treatment decision-making for patients with kidney cancer, with increased rates of non-guideline-based treatment for women and Black and Hispanic patients. Further research into the mechanisms underlying these disparities is warranted.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of first-line maintenance plus best supportive care with that of best supportive care alone in patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma. The results showed that the addition of first-line maintenance treatment significantly prolonged overall survival and had a minimal impact on quality of life.

Summary: Increased malignancy after kidney transplantation is a major concern, particularly with regards to urothelial carcinoma (UC) in Taiwan. Researchers conducted a retrospective study on 1005 kidney transplant patients, finding that new native kidney hydronephrosis was significantly associated with de novo urinary bladder urothelial carcinoma (UBUC) in post-transplant recipients. Multivariate analysis revealed that native hydronephrosis was the only statistically significant factor for UBUC development, with a higher incidence of pathologically aggressive and multifocal lesions.

Summary: Advances in genomic and genetic technologies have improved health outcomes for urologic cancer patients. Race and ancestry are associated with kidney, prostate, and bladder cancer outcomes. Integrating population-specific genomic information with urologic cancer-specific characteristics can improve outcomes and reduce cancer health disparities.

Summary: The differences in bladder cancer between men and women are notable, with worse outcomes for women and higher incidence in men. Factors such as delays in diagnosis, healthcare access, and treatment response contribute to these differences. Understanding the biological and health-system factors driving these disparities is essential for improving outcomes and developing effective treatments.

Summary: This study investigated the urinary metabolic differences in male patients with prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and renal cell carcinoma to find distinct metabolites and potential biomarkers among the three cancers. The results showed significant differences in metabolite levels, particularly 4-hydroxybenzoate, N-methylhydantoin, creatinine, glutamine, and acetate. Receiver operating characteristic analysis demonstrated good discriminatory accuracy between the different types of cancers. This preliminary study highlights the potential of metabolomics in the exploration of human urine for cancer detection.

Summary: Black men in the US have a higher mortality rate from prostate cancer due to lower quality care. The study found that black patients were more likely to receive care from surgeons and facilities with lower surgical volumes, which could impact surgical quality and outcomes. Access to high-quality prostate cancer care can help reduce racial disparities in disease outcomes.

Summary: Over the past 30 years, global incidence, mortality, and DALYs for kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers have significantly increased. Bladder and prostate cancers show a decreasing trend, while kidney cancer is on the rise. Regions and countries with higher SDI have higher incidence, mortality, and DALYs rates for these cancers.

Summary: Over 25 million individuals living in America are limited English proficient, and providing adequate language accommodations is crucial for effective healthcare, especially in rural communities. A survey of 42 rural facilities in Washington State found that while most facilities were meeting the requirements for language services, many reported barriers to providing these services.

Summary: Rural patients with urologic cancer face significant barriers in accessing care, but telehealth provides an affordable and satisfactory solution. Patients in rural areas are more likely to choose telehealth appointments and spend less on travel compared to in-person appointments. This study highlights the importance of telehealth in improving access to urologic oncologic care for rural residents.
